Blue flame exhaust for vRS

Featured Replies

Crazy you have a car with a perfectly fine exhaust and your considering ripping it off and putting on a different exhaust for the reason of:

1looks - this is only really possible if the car is static, on the open road how many run of the mill cars do you bother to look at? If it were say a Ferrari etc then that would be different

2 Sound - never heard a TDI with a big bore exhaust however diesels do not sound good in the first place so why make the noise louder?

3 Performance from reading the above 5-7bhp.... for £500+ my god what a waste of money. WHy not use Vmax fuel you'll get the same for about £2 more per tank. Also you would only be able to notice such a small increase in hp on lap times on the open road you would have no knowledge one way or the other - however no doubt everyone who has bought one will say oh yes we can feel a difference. Well they would wouldnt they ! As they are justifying to themselves that the money they spent was a very worth while modification.

but the worst bit of all is that you are replacing a part which will last (on ave milage & in an average location) min 10 years. These days with the metal they use getting stainless steel exhausts are again getting pointless as they are so much more expensive from what I have seen nearly twice the cost - so based on that I'd need to keep the car 20 years to get my money's worth out of it.

Perhaps you lot are cash rich and yet to start having responsibilities but when you reach this point you will dread the annual MOT and you will be saving this £500+ to cover any part failures & wear & tear items.

The other odd thing I seem to be reading over & over again is that many of you here seem to be running you'r TDi's to the Governor or very high revs... this issue being this is not the way to make good progress in a TDI. The way to drive a TDI quickly is to change up early use the Torque not the top end power to get the acceleration. This may be due to the fact you are new to TDI's having come from Saxo VTS's and the like hopefully you will learn soon how to drive these engines to their maximum progress and save you £ at the petrol station and down at Partco when you wear parts out much sooner than they should.

Welshy, i know people need a voice or reason every now and again to prevent rash/regrettable decisions etc, but i'm beginning to feel like you're taking the opposite view on things on purpose. Now i could COMPLETELY reading this wrong due to the bare emotionless text on my computer screen???

I don't wish to upset anyone or be banned etc and apologise fully if i am getting this all wrong. But i have spent time on other forums having someone elses opinion almost forced upon me. It gets tiresome after a while. I try to remain as impartial as i can when giving advice to people on forums for this very reason. "Do unto others..........." etc. As i don't know much about the Fabia i am asking other people's advice most of the time and thank you for your input. I respect peoples right to feedom of speech and do like a good debate every now and again, but prefer life as stress free as possible.

I hope i've just been barking in the wrong woods, let alone up the wrong tree :) :) :)

Ok, i'm sold :D . I just need to find
let alone up the wrong tree :) :) :)

Is there room for two in your tree?

Did you read my post welshy??

The rattle from any diesel is due to the very high compression ratio. The sound of the exhaust has nothing to do with that. The pulsing of the cylinders pumping gas into it at regular intervals is what makes the sound. Add to this a turbo (diesel or petrol) and the gasses expanding through the blades of the turbine changes the sound. Hence why subarus have a very distinct sound because they are timed differently to Inline engines AND have a turbo.

I'm a mechnical engineer and can appreciate the difference between a component made on a budget and a component made to perform. The standard exhaust has been made to a budget and looks like it was hastily finished to appeal to the "kind of person that buys a sport model". I don't disagree that it will last 10years.

Every car on the road is built to a design breif. This design breif weighs up many compromises. Performance/economy, Production cost/selling price etc etc etc.

Look at the difference between the pipework in these pictures

Which one look like it's had more R&D time spent on it and has been made to a more performance oriented design breif??

I know which one i'd choose. I would be happy paying for the extra R&D!!!

Bring a bottle and we'll have a party :friday: :) :)

Sigh, black cars look best don't they :P

What size oval is that pipe? - looks perfect!

It's a 6x4 Oval. Extra cost for it to be welded on.

But it's still a blue flame part?

I went for the cat back system and must say I am really pleased with it. You don't really notice any difference from inside the car but if you get someone to drive your car away from a standing start, you get the noise that I was hoping for (the one on Shifty's video!!) It also makes the car sound nicer at higher revs. The reasons I went for the cat back over a full system were 1. Money! and 2. I figured that the remap would produce plenty of torque to reduce my clutch life so why get more? Having said that, now I am used to driving around the torque, I think a de-cat would be very nice!!

I bought the Blue Flame Exhaust for my Fabia vRS last year with a 6x4 pipe, including sports cat. i think it is great, looks good and sounds good without being too intrucive.

It only cost me

But it's still a blue flame part?

Yep, Blueflame supply it.

IIRC i think shifty now has a straight thru zorst... maybe it has one box... but it sounds mental.. if the car was moving you would not know it was a tractor...

....but not a tractor GTI!!!!

  • 6 months later...

Pipewerx, PipeWerx - Performance Exhaust Specialist same pruduct, fitted better, and cheaper ;)

Also, I have a decat, and it is no more noisy around town at all, just when you let rip it makes a deep business like turbine sound.

sorry for jacking thread but what do people think of...

exhausts with sports cats

or straight through no cats?

my only main concern is the latter with mot etc, cant be miffed with constant change over of exhaust

I'm not too techincal but I believe that the cat isn't needed as the diesel test isn't emissions based it's smoke based. I know the cat isn't required to pass MOT's but may be wrong about the reason.

DaveB that price does seem too good to be true for a full turbo back system inc 100cell (not call as they have it) sports cat. Maybe they have old stock they're trying to get rid of, who knows.

i have needed a cat on any of my diesels at all thinking of a decat next as my blueflame just aint loud enough now lol
