Factory fit satnav functionality

Featured Replies

Sorry to start another sat nav thread, but i've got a couple of questions i'm trying to find the answer too (been to 3 skoda dealers and not seen a satnav'd car :o ):

The factory fitted satnav - how does it integrate with the car? What functions (apart from radio & sat nav) does it do? (For example the symphony does parking sensors visual readout from what i gather...)

The reason i ask, if it's simply a double din HU i'd rather spend the money on an aftermarket setup...

Cheers,

MPM :D

The MFD2 OEM satnav will integrate with your boot mounted CD player. It doesn't show the parking sensors and it doesn't show the external temperature like the Stream does.

I'd still have one again for what I paid (£249 off eBay), but the dealer price of £1350 is a bit steep

I'd go for the standard set-up and buy a unit off eBay and fit yourself...

Dave.

Forgot to add, the MFD2 looks simply awesome when it's fitted, makes the car look like it cost a whole lot more!

Dave.

It won't do any of the Stream (not Symphony) functions i.e. temp display and parking sensors.

It integrates well with Maxidot if you have it, of course it looks the part and it is a reasonable price on EBay.

To be honest you will get better functionality from an aftermarket unit i.e. mp3 playback, DVD player, etc.

Beat me to that Dodgy.

Hmmmm, certainly a tempting proposition - i don't know if i'd buy the ebay version over aftermarket options (for example) due to the lack of pre-outs and i assume 'touch-screen-goodness' etc... (yes - i'm a tart:rofl: )

...but basically, your saying it's just a satnav head unit that uses the same CD changer interface as the Symphony. hmmm. I can see why the

I doubt if you'll achieve quite the OEM effect with an aftermarket unit that you can get with an eBay purchased MFD2. It really does look part of the dash.

I've no idea what "touch-screen-goodness" is, but if it's what I think it is .... the MFD2 isn't a touch screen, so you won't get lots of finger marks on it.

I believe you can buy a fascia adaptor from Skoda. Plus you would need a Canbus adaptor.

LOL, swing - you got it :)

I like the idea of the OEM look - will prob go that way and work out some way of bolting a sub to the system to get more depth to the sound.

I think a picture can say many words:

Nice - now - here's a question - anybody know the part number for that silver surround? Mine's nice and grey...which I want to change...

 Picture could be abit clearer :D

Yeah, not sure why only the middle of the screen is out of focus :rubchin:

Dave.

You still get the temperature display on the maxidot display as well as direct turn and distance indicators that supplement the Sat-Nav

How about this for a place on the Map then!!

STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP you are about to get wet!!

That was Dunnet Head, the most northerly point of mainland Britain.

Pah, I have been in the middle of the Atlantic! Need to change that GPS sensor at some point.........................

It may just need calibrating - you can do that in the unit.

How do you do that Stu? I thought I had found all the MFD2's little tricks.

I like the idea of retro fitting the sat nav unit, but I have parking sensors. Would i be right in thinking that you would still get the audible warning beebs through the unit? Also Lady Elanore mentioned about linking an ipod video to it. Would this alow you to watch video images from the ipod through the sat nav screen? I know these are probably stupid questions but just want to check what i'm thinking.

I was told I could get an interface kit from SatNavSystems that would let me watch and listen to my ipod video tough my MDF2 Screen. If you are interested, give them a ring and speak to Tom.

Or search the MFD2 is in thread. Myself and a few others have bought the boxes to do the job some even allow the screen to remain on whilst the car is in motion. Pros, you dont lose your CD changer if you want to plug in an ipod, mp3 or DVD player. Cons. Picture aint that great tbh and its hard doing 80mph on the motorway, whilst on the phone enjoying a sandwich AND having to concentrate on the plot of the latest blockbuster!!!!
