Monster Tyre Wear - 2.0 TDI 140 BHP DSG

Featured Replies

I have just had to have one of my rear tyres replaced - see Axle Pair thread - due to a screw being picked and Kwik Fit mentioned that both my front tyres will probably need replacing in about 1,000 miles....

 WHAT

The car has only done 4,600 miles.

It does appear that one edge of a single trye is worn particularly bad and I do seem to spend a lot of time navigating roundabouts - but I have always done the same journey in different cars and never had to do this before.

Anybody else experienced excesive tyre wear on the 2.0 TDI ?

I am taken it back to the supplying dealer Tuesday to have it checked out but I suspect it'll report "no fault found"...

I can't see the lease company paying for 2 tyres every 5,000 miles.

Mine are now on 23k and will probably make it to 30k before needing replacement.

A lot of that's motorway miles but I do tend to accellerate hard when I can.

5k miles is clearly ridiculous. A friend thrashes his Golf GTI and still got 14k from his fronts.

I'd go back to your dealer and get the alignment checked.

Common problem with the octy 2.

Mine were gone at around 12K miles (front tyres inside egde).

Defo get that back to the dealer for a check up. I made the mistake of leaving mine to late, ive got 18800K on the clock now and the fronts are just showing signs of the dreaded wear again.

I must make time to get the tracking done before I knacker another set of tyres.

My fronts are half worn or thereabouts at 4500 miles. :o

mine seem to have some left on them ray and im on about 12500 miles on the same wheels as you. off to the dealers you go

I am at 6000 miles in my RS and I'll be lucky to see the same again out of them.

stop driving it like you stole it!

nah sounds like some serious wear issues there, dealer and no fobbing off please!

Sounds like a quality control issue on the production ine to me !

Thats pretty impressive - what make of tyres have you got? Have you been rotating them?

And are you happy with the grip? I appreciate in some cases there is a compromise between grip and life

After 17000 miles in my 2.0TDI I've had the fronts replaced at 1.6mm tread depth with Continental Premium Contact 2s. The original Dunlop Sport P01 15"s were evenly worn across the entire surface, but seem to be a bit too soft for this car. The backs have 4mm of tread remaining.

On my previous car (Seat Leon Cupra) I had Michelin Pilots on and when I got rid of the car after about 36000 miles they hadn't needed to be replaced. They also had about as much grip as a ceramic tile though :thumbdwn:

When I think how cars such as my 130TC Strada, Clio 16V and Uno II Turbo used to chew front tyres (6-12K miles max) I think the Octy TDi II does pretty well. It

I'm on 15000 miles and I don't think any of my tyres are half worn yet. [2.0 FSI hatch].

I drive pretty fast but don't corner or accelerate very hard. Must be something wrong in your set up.

Dunlop Sport SP - the factory fitted ones and they haven't been rotated. As I said earlier , I do a lot of motorway miles , but when I'm accellerating I do use the loud pedal as much as possible.

On my Mk1 Octy 1.9 tdi (110bhp) I got to 40k on the fronts and 60k rear with the Michelin Pilot HX

I have exactly the same car, estate version, I am on 20K and they are only half way there, i also like to floor it on the straight but it does not corner very well so I take it easy.

I get the distinct feeling that I should really take the corners easier... what's the point of having stiffer suspension and better grip if you don't take adavantage of it. I would have still expected to get 10k from them.

I like the fact the car has lots of torque and being able to go quicker round corners then SWIMBO's 7 Seater is a bonus, but if its going to eat rubber perhaps i should wait for the straights to blast !

Looking at the tyres most of the wear is on the centre 60% which could be over inflation. I have never checked the tyre pressures on a car unless I notice deflation or difference in road handling.

Here's hoping to a tracking problem.

I destroyed the front tyres on my Ka in 12k miles.

That was from doing all corners on the limit of their grip rather than blistering accelleration though

Perhaps because the car is such a lump(2.0TDi and DSG), I drive using better lines through corners? Chucking the car in and lifting off the throttle doesn

My original Bridgestones lasted 18,000miles on the front, with spirited driving.

all depends on the type of driving the car gets. town and city/b road driving generally will wear tyres much much quicker than motorway miles. I'd say you could get about 1/3 more miles if motorway mileage! if not more

Strada 130TC AND an Uno Turbo!! Did you not learn the 1st time you bought a Fiat lol. I used to sell them back in the late 80's and still feel very ashamed about the things I did to people

I didn

23,000 out of original Bridgestones on a 1.9 TDi DSG so cann't complain.

I drive mine hard and still manage an average of around 12k to 14k out of the fronts with the rears getting replaced every 2nd time.

Without the traction control I could imagine a few thousand coming off that, but I doubt ever down to 5k miles.
