3 days and its broken!! (part 2!)

Featured Replies

ok, so i started a thread below (3days and its broken)... well the upshot of that one is that it worked... until yesterday

the car is now 7 days in my possession, the same thing has happened again (ie the engine light has come on and car has gone into limp mode) they say they spent 4 hours working on it on tuesday, couldnt find a fault.

i yelled a lot at the dealer (bay horse in hereford) but they (a) didnt offer me a courtesy car on either occasion and (B) havent really offered a conclusion satisfactory to me..... theyve got the car and are supposed to be ringing me back at 8am mon morning.... tell me, do i....

1) tell them to keep the damn car until they fix it properly (and give me a courtesy car)

2) tell them i want my cash back

3) tell them i want a replacement vrs....given this is only 7 days old

im very pd off at the moment, so any level headed advice would be welcome on how to approach them on monday morning... im supposed to be doing a 500 mile round trip in it in 2 weeks (bear in mind its only got 200 miles on the clock at the moment!) so its not exactly filling me with confidence.

I've read that Auto Express sometimes gets involved with helping consumers with returning cars.

I've had a real issue with Woolworths recently, their customer services team didn't wish to help me in the slightest, so I dug out their Chief Execs details, sent an email to him late at night, got a phone call at 9.30 the next morning :D

A colleague had the same experience with Renault and went straight to their CEO as well - got

In my opinion they should give you a courtesy car (another vRS) and fix your car.

IMHO reject the car , there is obviously an inherant fault with it , which may cause future problems , its even more concerning that the dealer can't find anything wrong with it when its in limp mode , surely there will be a fault code logged ?

I'd also reject the car. Although, you should have a 30 day exchange. Get them to find another one.

You need to give them reasonable opportunity to diagnose and repair before you can reject.

Write a letter copied to SUK along the lines of you will allow one more attempt at repair after which rejection will follow.

Demand a replacement vehicle for the duration.

agreed... and if it isn't fixed reject it....

If they have stopped production of the vRS, what is the dealer supposed to replace the rejected car with?

That's assuming he wants another fabia?? Having been down a similar route myself many years ago I know it is better the reject early and then let negotiations commence whilst at all time reserving your right to reject.

If you don't reject early it becomes much harder, only 7 days into ownership is ideal.

There's always the chance of an SE as a replacement. :P

"they said they did have one other skoda with the same problem reported but that was to do with a pipe coming loose, but that wasnt the case with mine"

that was my car, the egr valve hadnt been clicked in properly, and that fixed the fault with mine, so is it to do with the egr valve?

that would have brought up an engine management light

Blimey not having much luck! As others said, I'd be looking at rejecting the car (and heading on back to Ford ;))

Chris

ford  head for seat :D

yeah thats what they said had happened... did yours get fixed completely after that?

to answer the questions above -

1) yes i do want another vrs

2) and yes, the engine management light was on (thats how i know there was an error on both occasions)

3) im supposedly getting a phone call between 8am-9am tommorow morning... after mulling it over for the day i think my course of action will be this

1) see what they say

2) give them every opportunity to fix it for a 2nd time

3) if not fixed to my satisfaction within the next 3 days, replacement

4) courtesy car to be given

5) letter to SUK + to cite examples of EGR valve problem

ive calmed down a lot this morning... at least i know they aint bs ing me about one other car having this problem - thanks TDI VRS - we should go for a beer sometime.... where abouts in hereflop are you?

Moreton-On-Lugg and no i haven't had any problems wit the egr valve since and my car has done 850 miles now. But it is going back in this wednesday for a rattle coming from the dash.

MJallday

I'm currently experiencing same problem with exhaust emission light showing on dash permanently. It has been cleared once already before re-appearing the day after!!

Very frustrated given i've only had car 4 DAYS :mad:.

I'll be very interested to see how you get on.....and i'll let you know how i do.... as it's booked into dealer 2moro.

Interested to hear from you Herefordians

The best bit of B.H.Motors is the pub next door ...

Although I bought my vRS from BHM, I've taken to getting it serviced at Powick as they make a lot more sense and give me a courtesy car every time.

You can reject a car for defects or wrong spec on collection and you don't actually have to give them a chance to repair the offending item on collection any more inside of the first 6 months.

BBC - Consumer - Guides to - Buying from a car dealer

Failing that give consumer direct a call

I would write a letter and post it to them recorded delivery stating they have 48 hours to diagnose the fault with the vehicle and come to a solution that is satisfactory to you or you will reject it.

The sooner you reject it and the lower the mileage then less chance they have to claim your use of the vehicle has depreciated it's value or anything you have done.

Much as I wouldn't normally say jump at them, I would strike while the case is very clear cut.

EDIT: Just to note if they dispute the rejection you would need to pay a lawyer as the car would be above the small claims values. So you would need to weigh this up.

right,

got a call from the dealer last night.... they swapped over the relay from their courtesty car to mine... and it appears to have worked.. apparently this fault (the relay) is a bit more common on the octavia vrs and they think it may have slipped into the fabia vrs (dodgy batch of relays??) ...... im still not 100% convinced but ill have it back at 4.30 tommorow so ill let you know..

cool, if you see at red one going past your house at the speed of light (towards leominster) , thats me :)

also i got that rattle from the dash - i solved mine though.... it seemed to be when i put stuff in the "secret" floor and not on the lid..... so i whacked a couple of bits in the main glove box and it went away

Got mine back from the dealer and they diagnosed a broken wiring loom to the glow plug.........apparently due to some excessive crimping!!! The have replaced it and fingers crossed.

The light has now gone off and gone forever............hasn't it??:eek::eek:

haha ye, i will keep an eye out for ya.

i got my car bk from bay horse today, they had seemed to solve the rattle from adjusting the bonnet hinges, bit strange, tat was it but, has seemed to solve it, i did think it was something in my glovebox but i took everything out of it and the noise was still there. so yours is ok now then?

yeah seems to be... its been 2 days since i had it back... seems to be this "relay" issue.. dont fancy anyones chances driving their demonstrator though (thats where my old one currently is!)

the rattle seemed to go away when i put stuff in as opposed to take stuff out! bit weird - i did get it a bit this morning if its a problem BH will be receiving another visit from Mr Angry :)
