Installing the longer 6th gear in a fabia box

Featured Replies

Been thinking myself a bit., Even the shorter ratio box will do about 155mph indicated before touching the redline. If my new map means it will be a revvy car capable of pushing beyond the redline in 6th, then I reckon if I ever want to go that quick, it won't matter which box I have, and "probably" having the revvier setup would actually be better than trying to do fast speeds down around 3500rpm.

Its where the peak torque is though, say if it is at 3500 then after that it will struggle to reach the top spead!!!

But somehow i dont quite think you will have a problem with that sort of thing with the size of turbo you have got  . it might be the other way round!!!!

Will depend how Mike sets it up. ;)

I don't think it's worth it.

At those sort of speeds, the fabia is as aerodynamic as a brick :(

I have the longer-legged box, and last time I tried a speed run on a private road, the aeros stopped me long before hitting the red line. I think I was between 3,500 and 3,700rpm.

Of course, things have changed slightly now so would need to do it again - car definately has more sustainable top-end power. But When as soon as you want to go over 150mph, the fabia's lines really doesn't help

but the most important bit is that it does still go over that!!!!! (private roads of course)

Mine pulls hard up to 5000 rpm at the moment, and there is more work to be done. I'd rather be able to use more of it and then sit on motorway in 6th at fairly low rpms most days TBH. I know it means less use of 6th gear in reality but having the more usable range in the lower gears is great. The amount of power in 1st/2nd makes even a slighly uncontrolled foot movement potentially dodgy.

Im finding im using 6th less and less now (long-box)

Dunno what it is, but now my engine is almost run in  it revs quite happily, and feels like the whole powerband has been shifted upwards ;) 5th is well n truly license loosing territory anyway , as well as being clutch/dmf friendly inside the NSL... i use 6th when im fast-cruising, and still knock it down a cog for a extra squirt when required

4th does 110 quite easily on mine now, if 'needed' - must admit I don't tend to go that fast (in that gear :o ) generally though.

Thing is I find in the dry I can let clutch come up and blip throttle in 1st, then drop to 2nd, give it a little more but stay below 3000 rpm, then 3rd I can go for it.

In the wet, 3rd gear 3000 rpm also means wheelspin when booting it.

That's with Quaife and reasonable tyres (<< i think).

As the engine has only done 11k and the tuning hasn't been tweaked upwards yet, I reckon there is more to come though :D
