Installed Vista - no sound :(

Featured Replies

Just installed Vista on my Dell xps 210 and now I have no sound! I have tried installing the sigmatel audio drivers from dell's site, to no avail?

Can anybody suggest any way I can rectify this.

Thanks

A computer ****tard.

did you install the drivers from here?

I did download those yes thank you. Being the idiot that I am though, I failed to follow the correct installation, which I am attempting now.

All installed :D:thumbup:

Still no ****ing sound  :thumbdwn:

This is not unusual in vista, try uninstalling the software from add and remove programs, then see if they are still displayed in device manager, if they are right click em and uninstall. Restart the PC and try installing them again using the file you downloaded. If vista trys to take over at startup just cancel it. Hope this helps!

Take it off and put xp back on - OR -

If you have a core duo processor, put MAC OS on, My son has just done this, and that will be my next step once my current machine starts giving me problems, new processor & MAC.

OSX86?

I had this with the AC97 on my motherboard too, was very suprised they had omitted them from windows.

Just to add the sound DOES work.. its just not routing to the speakers plugged into the back of the pc, if headphones are plugged in the front it does work

i had problems with the sound (and a few other things) when i installed vista, but within about a week the new drivers/patches/bug fixes were available

That sounds a bit weird, tale it your speakers work if you plug em into the front?

Speakers work if I plug them in the headphone jack. Also worked 100% before Vista.

Best advice from dell support - "try reinstalling xp and see if they work then"

Sounds like the drivers are not 100%. although the switching should be automatic. Normally the rear ports work, but the front ones dont.

Is there a setting in control panel that defines whats plugged in where?

Might be worth having a look in your system bios, there may be a daft setting in there thats causing it to do it. Is very strange though coz it woul normally be the other way around.

I know for a fact its a driver problem with the sigmatel drivers (i have the same chipset in my lappy - on old drivers the speakers would not work when on the dock)

the driver does have some sort of port detection, but i think it doesnt work
