Creaks and Rattles Update?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

these threads have been done before, but my car (06 VRS estate) with only 4,000 miles) suffers from the following:-

1. creaking suspension - intermittent when going over speed bumps and some very undulating roads - now there also seems to be a creak when turning the steering wheel to the right sharply on flat roads

2. creaking door seals

3. a clicking sound coming from the front passenger door

4. a clicking sound coming from some where on the dashboard (dont think its the climate control becasue it is apparent when that is turned off)

5. a clicking sound from the rear seat catches

All in all its making for a cachophony of sound on every drive. I am about to book it in with the local dealer, for these and a list of other stuff too. Does anyone know:

In relation to 1. whether there is a known cause of this (the suspension noise) yet and if the steering creak might be something different?

In relation to 2. what the part numbers for the modified door seals are (I need all four) and whether the culprits are the frame or door mounted seals. Do they fix the problem

In relation to 3 + 4 any idea of cause

IN reltion to 5 if there is any known cure.

Bombarding the dealer with all of this stuff, I know is going to result in none of it being done / looked at properly at once, but what choice do I have.

any comments suggestions advice gratefully recieved.

This is still a cracking car underneath.....

My elegance has the following.

1) Rattly glovebox lid when closed, only in cold weather.

2) small rattle when cold from the headlining behind my right ear, possibly related to the grab handle.

3) the creaking suspension, on speed bumps only.

creaking suspension doesnt bother me, as the boxster used to be far worse, the rattles I am working on.

I have a 55 2.0 Tdi Elegance.

I get all sorts of creaky noises from the dash when on less than perfect tarmac. And something creaking somehere between passenger door and dash. I'm tempted to get out the silicon spray....

This car is far worse than Golfs (of the 5 we have had to date) - I can only assume that either the assembly is a little more 'cut-price', or the Skoda cost savings with cheaper parts or materials have an effect. I think the car is just too complicated for Skoda to deal with.

And I can't stand the way the stumpy and pointless air-deflectors in front of the wheels always scrape speed humps.

I really should give up being stingy while I have to pay for my own cars, and just get a japansese something or other, or preferably a BMW !! My friend's 320 is utterly silent, squeak and rattle-wise, even when hammered on rough roads, and the diesel engine is massively superior in refinement to VW's coarse rubbish.

I have every single noise listed in the first post :( . Annoying isn't it? Unfortunately the dealerships have a get out clause when it comes to any creak / rattle from my doors as I upgraded the speakers and put in sound deadening. They always effectively threaten to blame it on that and charge me :( . Oh one more noise - my head rest creaks like a bitch.

My Mrs cruely said the racket of all the noises adds to the overall mini cab effect!

I'll be interested to hear how you get on. With regard to noise 5, after the dealer choosing to ignore it when I've taken it in I think I'll fix it myself with a bit of sticky back felt.

Are these all early cars in the new model? My Vrs estate delivered Feb 2007 has none of the noises reported here, not that I want any of them, just wondering if they have been 'cured' as the new build was refined.

Mine was first registered June '05, so fairly early.

Mine with creaky suspension was an 06 and has now been creaking for 6 months.

It's been to dealers 4 times and still creaks

Mines a september 2005 55 reg.

I think it's a couple of the Irish guys that have new cars that creak , and they are VRSs , so it's affecting quite a few different models as well as ages

Like you guys I have a pain in the ar$e with the rattles creaks from my car, I think the dealer has also , he thinks it's all in my head but its a joke that there seems to be little being done to rectify the problems.

1. Suspension, mine is doing the same, it got greased up and it DID go away BUT its back. AFAIK it was being brought to the attention of Skoda Ireland.

2. I don't think I have this problem

3. I was getting a noise aswell, I found that it was coming from in front of the door handle, putting a cloth between the door & dash got rid of it. The dealer worked on the door but can't remember what was done, the card maybe reseated done it.

4. I have snap noises from the dash, I had vents replaced but they looked identical to the old ones, its actually worse now I think.

5. This was supposed to have been fed back to the factory, the latest was thatit was the piece the seat belt comes out of vibrating off the seat release clip but it ain't that. Putting some cardboard into seat clip catch sorts that. I sent Skoda a pic of the same.

Btw I found that there was also a noise due to the seat back in the back rubbing off the door card. Putting a bit of black PVC tape on the door card gets rid of the noise.

Just a subsequent thought on 3. The passenger seat belt buckle will tap against the pillar trim unless it is slid right to the top, I had mentioned somewhere else but forgotten as it's now an automatic reaction to slide it up.

MMM bits of cloth, cardboard, pvc - hardly what you would call audi like build quality is it?? Much was said about this car in terms of quality and I suppose at the price it was that claim turned out to be too good to be true. Dashboard rattles I might be able to accept (and acceptance is a good thing otherwise you just become paranoid) but suspension noises and creaking door seals are unacceptable IMHO. I read a long term test (in auto express or something) about the new astra vxr which the tester reported had absolutely none of these issues at 20k miles. C'mon skoda if Pauxhall can do it why can't you??

Anybody else found the modified door seals let in a lot of wind noise?

I found my new ones just exchanged one set of sounds for a slightly different set. But when warm and at reasonable speed there are no door sounds - they only show up when trundling slowly around town, and usually in only the first 20 minutes or so of warm up.

They can, as the link below shows, 28k miles in 11 months and a very satisfied driver (possibly same magazine). Personal experience is always just that, it shouldn't be assumed that it therefore applies in general, good or bad. Personally I have no issues with my car so far and I expect that to continue. I hope that the problems described in this thread are resolved for each individual so that you can all enjoy your cars as much as I'm enjoying mine.

I am not sure how representative this forum is of octavia II ownership in Britain is, but for those owners who have no issues with their cars, would it be stretching the imagination too much to suggest that they are the lucky few? Would a poll be in order, or is it too negative a subject?

Maybe all these issues I am experiencing have something to do with the fact that 80% of the car's life is spent driving over speed humps of one sort or another? Our old 206 gti needed two new front shocks at 40K becasue they were leaking, which the garage explained away as down to the number of speed humps in south west london. At least it was 40k not 4k before the symptons appeared!

May I ask what kind of silicone spray??? I use Holts Rubber and Nylon Lubricant aerosol and I'm lucky if it lasts a week.

06 1.9tdi Estate with 25k on clock

Passenger door card rattles with bass

Suspension or mud flaps creaks when going over small stubby speed bumps

Turning music up fixes it tho :)

I can honestly say the only problem so far was air con needed recharging, very good vehicle so far.
