HELP VRS major over heating !

was driving my 2002 vrs with 29000miles around the town with my friend at the coolent temp gauge went all the way to 130o and i got a warning light and beebs, so stopped to see the coolent boiling like ****. then it dropped down to 90 again and started goin up and down !. now cars home in the garage engine been off for ages and temp is staying at 90o and wont go down, bottle is makin hissing noises ? EH HELP only had car 3 weeks !!!!!!!

Personally, I'd get it out of the garage in the cooler outdoors, with the bonnet up in the air to cool her off.

This happened to me a few years back, I had exactly the same symptoms!

The engine will be fine ticking over or below 2500rpm, but push it and it will very quickly overheat!

When you get the water pump replaced make sure they replace the cam belt at the same time and not simply re-use the old one!

Make sure its the metal impeller water pump mainly available from "First Line"

is this plastic water pump impeller dear to replace ???? this sound like what it is though was at normal temp stayin at low revs and as soon as it hits anything over 3-4 shoots up

The water pump is around £30 on exchange for the later modified plastic impeller one from a Skoda dealer. The major bill will be for replacing the cambelt and tensioner at the same time.

Also make sure that both radiator fans are working.

The water pump sounds likely though,

Could also be the head gasket.

Aye it'll be the water pump. The plastic impeller splits and then rotates freely on the shaft instead of pumping the water round.

It could also be a head gasket on the way out. Check the coolant for bubbles.

Will more than likely be the waterpump, very unlikely to be headgasket at that miles.Although if engine has been severely overheated may effect gasket.

Will need thorough checking. As has been said already, make sure cambelt is replaced at same time.

Nurse it to the garage slowly if its close, hand over £300 odd and youre done.

Sounds like it was due for replacement anyway.

cars still at garage, it was the water pump, so new pump + new timing belt all fitted free under my warranty. Should be getting it back the morns afternoon. Still seems odd this would go on a car with only 29k on the clock.

Just saw where you come from.......is there a long enough road up there for the VRS to get going:)

The impeller on my car's water pump was breaking up when changed at just 18738 miles. :(

must be a common fault same as the coil packs. LOL ye there is some nice long straights up here.

yep same thing on mine,

going to do the cambelt and replace with metal impeller for waterpump.

Hope there is no damge to the head already!

Anyone had any damage after this type of failure?

Not being funny, but a 52 that's only done 29K - sounds like it's been mainly used as a town runabout - so likely the engine's been more stressed that one that'd have done 40k...
