Dash Lights

Featured Replies

Hiya Guys,

Does anyone know how to change the colour of the lights in the dash ???

Thanks

Tim.

With a lot of difficulty. I know the green looks naff compared to the VW blue and the Audi/Seat red, but it is not worth the hassle.

Tim,

I'll second Jeff - not technically difficult, but very time consuming. You’d have to take everything to pieces and change the LEDs (lots of soldering) – gone have the days of coloured bulbs.

I think the Skoda Green illumination is quite refreshing after coming from three previous VW's that had blue dials.

So I'm happy.

For info you're better of replacing the instrument cluster from a Polo/Golf then replacing all the switches etc etc etc.......

Should cost approx

I thought that to change the colour of the speedo etc all you needed to do was change a filter behind them, or is this an old way of doing things.

This has changed. VAG use LED's soldered onto the circuit board of the combi meter now, so it is now quite a tricky operation unfortunately. ;)

i recently had a car at work where the led on the speedo had gone and it was out of warrenty and skoda want

could you change the needle colour so they are red like the vRS any easier?

about the same diffculty but you need the needles as well

interested in a challange :D

As shown in the German pdf document, there are a few LEDs to change at the base of each needle so if your Ok with a soldering iron then it's not too tricky, but the difficult thing is to get the needles off. They are a tight fit on the spindles and you need to make sure they go back on in the same place.

yes, if you want red needles during the day but the stock ones will glow red at night (assuming you go for red LEDs)

What a coincidence, I was planning to ask the same question !

Coming from a Golf I'll miss the blue lights, but I'd better find someone who is more skilled than I am...

Is it just me or does the octavia speedo unit look the same as the VW Mk4 Polo speedo unit

ok just saw sum of the other posts, and its said 2 be time consuming and difficult. i saw the german pdf of how u cahnge the leds, but is there anyone knows of a manual in english?? im technically handicapped, but between me n my dad, and 3 months b4 uni, i might b up 4 the challenge!

If you've got that much time you could translate it on Google :D

EddyH has done the full 'works' to his RS. LED's and MFD now blue/red. Looks very nice when done. The info he sent me was too advanced for my non-electrical knowledge tho:(. The changing of the led's was the 'easy' bit but the MFD is apparently a pain in the ass.

ok, cheers, i'll get in touch w eddyh.
