03 Octy Failed NCT emissions test

Featured Replies

A workmate of mine told me today of his brothers 02 Octy 1.6 petrol failing the NCT test (MOT) because of emissions. (Correct year of manufacture)

He had the car checked out by main dealer, had some parts replaced and told car was fine. It failed again to much surprise of the dealer who I am told want to case to be taken up by Skoda Ireland to find out what the NCT company expect from this car.

Also told that on the first inspection they quoted that the petrol cap could not be opened. They obviously could not find the button on the dashboard:rofl:

 worrying that. are they that stringent down there? i know most of our mot centres are computerised now, but then again they have always been pretty stict up here. unless of course u have on a mini skirt.

Has been getting more strict even on minor issues.

Nothing against the test in general, at least it means that most cars on the road are in good shape and safe condition. If only some people could change their bad driving habits which you can witness every day.

Of course it is not about the extra money they make by you having to pay for a re-test if they have to use any machine on your car rather than a visual inspection.

You can even fail if your indicators are the wrong shade of orange.

hehe

/me has terrible images of hairy legged men in miniskirts trying to get their cars to pass an MoT!

My GF's car failed for that. I should have swapped the bulbs back after the MoT for the 'faded' ones and then swapped the 'good' ones back in for the next test!

Well, the filler release threw me the first time I ever drove an Octy. Hey, it was a hire car, and I'd only just got in it at Thiefrow.

I'd suggest that NCT emissions requirements should be stated publically in a form like:-

- CO2, NOx, Hc levels required.

I also have a suspicion, based on UK MOT, that they should be tested on a hot engine, and, based on another conversation on here, that you can't warm up an Octy petrol by idling it.

Update on the emissions test failure. The car was a 02 Octavia 1.6.

Follow discussion with 2 Skoda dealers a rep from the VW group called to query the figures that were being used by the NCT.

When shown them they were not the correct figures for that model of car. They were given the correct figures to use for the test and the car passed with no difficulty.

I wonder how many other 02 Octavia 1.6 owners had similar problems trying to pass the emissions test if these incorrect figures were used all over the country.:thumbdwn:

Mine's due for its NCT at the end of the month..... granted without a gearbox it mightn't pass. I will post up the results when done (The emmissions are the only worry I have as I've a sports CAT on the car)
