When i got my mk1 in 2002, it was one old Skoda joke after another. Bracing myself for more of the same when i got the mk 2, after one month - nothing.

Took one of the Directors to a meeting last week. When we got back to the office he clocked the badge on the steering wheel and said "I thought you were joking when you said it was a Skoda":)

I had the old Skoda 'skip' references whilst waiting for my car. Now it's been seen and ridden in by a few the boot's firmly on the other foot. The latest Auto Express Driver Power ratings have re-inforced the kudos of the Octavia, many a long face when they have looked to see where their car was ranked. I find it best to be quietly content. :)

I don't think people generally are as ignorant as they used to be.

My non "car fan" friends, usually while passengers, all just said, "Oh yes, Skodas are more or less VWs now, aren't they. Goes well, doesn't it."

i take pleasure from the ''puzzled'' look on people faces:rofl:

I took a friend home the other night and he was speachless with regard to the car and it's performance, another convert

Especially as they strain their eyes whilst saying "what the feck was that?" as you disappear into the distance :D

Your one has slightly more pep than most!:D

If you think about it - you have the no.1 car in the UK.

A person trying to be funny with an outdated joke about cars that are no longer manufactured would come across as a total spas......

Was going to start a thread about this called "What I didn't expect to Happen!"

Although, I have only done about 300 miles, much of it on the Wirral and the North West the reaction I am getting from other motorists is remarkable. Not had any conversations yet but blimey the staring and the slowing down to check it out. My wife saw one guy in Widnes wind his tinted window down and bodily lean out of it to get a better look.

Just wait till it's run in. They wont get the chance! :)

Back in 2002, I used to work for the UK arm of a massive European private bank and had the last company car before everyone got an allowance instead. I thought it was quite amusing that their entire company car fleet consisted of a Skoda.

I once went to a trustee meeting and the chairman was pacing round the boardroom and happened to glance out of the window and spotted the RS. The meeting was adjourned for ten minutes whilst they all went out and had a look. Even then the reputation was starting to build up but now i think they've well and truly buried the old stigma.

but now i think they've well and truly buried the old stigma.

I think we're in denial if we believe the stigma is gone.

Dave.

I agree Dave.

I have a friend who would dearly love a Skoda, it would suit his needs perfectly but his Wife won't allow it.

She won't even get in my car, which is laughable when you look at the cars they own. R5 GTT, Golf MKII Convertible, MGF and just got rid of a Y reg Freelander.

I had an a55hole crack a Skoda joke at me a few weeks ago. This same guy doesn't even have a car not to mind drive.
