Tuning Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

I am looking at getting a MK 1 Octavia vRS for around £7000 as I can't afford a MK 2. I am wanting better acceleration 0-60mph. I have already read the tuning article on this site which was very helpful and which helped me compile a rough list of what I would like to do to my car.

· 4 bar fuel pressure regulator £100

· Performance exhaust system - Milltek Full system 100 CPI Cat £600

· Induction system ABD £150

· ABD aluminium Turbo Intake pipe £150

· Dump valve Bailey £100

· Upgrade tyres – Toyo proxes £400

· Major Service (If required) £200

· Jabbasport remap £500

Total cost around £2000. I was estimating that after these upgrades BHP = 240, Torque lb/ft = 280 and 0-60 = 6.4 seconds. What do you guys think? Is there anything else that you would do differently?

I would run it on shell v-Power 99 octane fuel aswell.

You may be happy enough with just a remap. I am.

I don't know about 6.4 seconds. At what your doing, I think the hardest thing will be hitting traction as you've not mentioned anything to do with suspension etc.

4 bar fuel pressure regulator £100 That is an expensive price. You can get cheaper

· Dump valve Bailey £100 Go for the Forge one , does same job and cheaper

· Jabbasport remap £500

Hi

You are headding in the right direction there

As I have said , that is an expensive 4 bar FPR and maybe not required , have a word with Jabba as their remap may not need it

We have tried them on the APR remap on stage 1 and 2 and have not made any difference

Sarah

ditch the engine and buy a cupra R lump if you can find one and get that fitted, if you shop around could cost around the 2k mark and will have 225bhp as standard then later on get it mapped for ~250bhp and your also setup for a a better big turbo future as they have stonger rods and pistons and a better exhaust manifold should you want an ATP eliminator kit :)

that what i would do differently if i did it all again rather than spend out on remaps, pipes and intercoolers etc.

Don't think you will get as much torque as that. 6.4 to 60? In theory maybe, but putting the power down is a pain. Once you're on the move, though :D:D

What improvements should i do then that would help with the traction? I think that the tyres are sorted as the toyo tR1's have got very good grip.

Try not to put your foor down in the wet, turn the asr button:) OFF....

Only thing that really going to help is an LSD

That helps, but it's not the only thing. Been recently in an Octy on KW3's along with it having decent tyres, and no wheelspin, just grip... and it takes off. That's fairly well modded... Pushing 240hp I believe? Probably less.. :P

The thing is though i bet an LSD is cheaper than the KW3's :D

With fitting an LSD your looking just over the best part of a

KW3's will be around the same are they are about £900/£1k to buy

but yea that would be a good way to go

If you want good traction off the line get a 4 wheel drive Octavia and take it

from there.

exactly :D

i used to be able the rev it to 6k and drop the clutch but after the last lot of tuning i get wheel spin and a touch of sideways movement now even with 4WD in the dry :D

Should be even better wheb you get your engine sorted bengie

lol does your clutch have as much fun as you as you when you do that though

i don't do it every day but i do have an uprated clutch and flywheel :)

i really should get my **** into gear and get my car sorted out :(

Spot on, the car will also cost a lot less & you could then add the KW's, better handling, better traction & less obvious to plod, Ok it hasnt got fancy seats etc but apart from that a better bet IMO. Being a 4x4 its also less likely to have been abused before you get it

What makes you say that just out of curiosity? If anything I thought the clutch for instance would have been under more stress. As people know what they are.

Just a hunch, those who buy a VRS new are quite often ones looking for a quick car & tend to drive it "enthusiastically" The first owner of a 4x4 is probably more gentle so a good second hand 4x4 has probably had a quieter life

probably a slower life but more likely to have towed like mine had so my clutch went at about 85k and my gearbox imploded at about 92k :( but mine does seem to be unusual for that :)
