Octavia II Disapointment

Featured Replies

After an extremely long list of faults, some minor some more major, inside of 3 months of ownership and being left stranded by the roadside, I am seriously considering selling the Octavia II and buying another brand of car.

The dealer service is often poor, skoda customer service appears to be a contradiction in terms, and the MK II seems to be a right pain of a car.

Is anybody else that sick of their octy II, esp compared to the MK I that they either regret buying it or are considering getting shot of it.

And as a side does anyone know of a make that doesn't use the DMF on their derv cars these days?

I think you must have a friday car, generally people think the MkII is a good motor, What has gone wrong with yours?

Shockingly bad service from a dealer who charged to fix things on TSBs and uses the hire car excess on the basis that is IMHO that's more a hire charge than an insurance excess waiver!

Skoda do the bare minimum on repair and don't replace bits that other VAG groups apparantly do.

I'm sick of it.

I had an Octy I that had bad momets but was ok, however the octy II has low mileage and the dealer service has been pitiful so far.

The citroens and peugots I have owned, including a BX with it's "unreliable" suspension, were more reliable than the skodas :(

You need to try another dealer. As I've said before, Sales there is great - Service has suffered. I am now using Chichester.

I have had my moments of disappointment but for other reasons. Things seem to have sorted themselves out just when I was on the verge of changing brands.

So now all is well (and I hope it stays that way) I'll be keeping mine.

I am trying another dealer who are a lot better, but it doesn't help that Winchester, sway and Chichester are all a long drive for me from home and work meaning that it is a pain to use.

I'm not personally a fan of the soton dealer either, but that isn't really to do with this.

EDIT: Another point is that you should have to be playing chase the dealer and shouldn't need to visit a dealer this many times before even the first service :(

Not many rattles or squeaks to report, most of the rattles in my car are from all the junk stuffed in every cubby hole and orifice available.

Had a new wheel bearing and EGR valve a while back but thats about it in 44,000 miles. The build quality and reliability is as good if not better than my MkI Elegance.

The dealer I use (Station Garage Ewhurst) is very good as well.

It's amazing what effect a crap dealer can have on a good car.

Faulty brake light switch in just under 40k, dealer is very good (Derek Slacks) and when it was serviced the other day I enquired about the vRS and Scout as a possibility for my next car.

Unless something goes very wrong in the next 20k miles I can see myself choosing another Skoda.

8 months in and 16K miles, nothing gone wrong yet. Car is an early 55reg, which had 14K miles on it when purchased, now on 30K. I have driven all round europe, right down to the southern spanish border, France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg etc. Mine has been more reliable than my mk1 vRS which suffered from constant coilpack problems, but my dealer is very good and will fix things for nothing that other dealers may charge for.

This is my 2nd octavia, would I buy another one. YES.

Only issue with my Octy 2 so far is the window cables wrapping themselves round the motors and smashing the rear drivers window (rear left just jammed).

Dealer was very good, and is getting the parts tomorrow hopefully. Could be a Friday build, and based on my Octy 1 being trouble free, I'm not that worried - a little upset at a car which was less than 24hr old, but such is life

After 12 months, absolutely no problems apart from the following:

Non-self-cancelling indicators - fixed at the first service by replacing the stalk, and:

Cick-clack from the climatrronic on both sides for a minute during early warm-up - aparently a well-known fault and supposedly sorted out throgh a software upgrade - still not cured but really not a major problem.

And for thoseof you in the South-East - all done very efficiently by Motorline Canterbury. And they rang me up the next day to ask about the service. So far, excellent!

I have to say I really think this Friday car isn't an excuse for two reasons:

1) Haven't these people heard of quality control.

2) The faults I list are all down to design issues or faulty parts not bad fitting from what i can make out.

These parts are shared by all the VAG group.

That plus the dealers are on the whole pretty poor :(

Was there anything noticed prior to failure ? Mine is making a noise on both rear windows (more noticable on the P/S), noise occurs about 1/3 of the was up. Its like a snap noise when something is spooling on and is getting tight...if you get me.

A change of heart Harry?

Glad you feel better :) :)

Aye.

Now its back on form, its f*cking quick. :)

So what you done to it to get it back on form then?.

Aye.

Lets hope it stays that way mate :)

If mine goes tits up its of to BMW for me :)

Shed a few pounds and erm...nothing else. It's sorted itself out.

It still hesitates but now very rarely, and I've got back some decent boost levels.

It felt like something was really wrong with it. Didn't have much go at all.

My handling seem to go a bit queer as well but again the car is self healing.

I'd get it checked, as if it is it's a) only fixable by the dealer, and B) could lead to a broken window like mine.

Dealer says wed now, as can't get the carriers. BUT has had a 6mth old Oct 2 with the same fault in today!

They're talking to Skoda about it, and the dealers pretty good, so they should let me know what Skoda say about it.

No Excuses, I did not mean that Friday cars were acceptable, I mean look at the build quality of some of the recent Merc's. I hope that yours gets sorted out. Good luck.

Cheers for that, I'll have to bear it in mind.

Harry, it might have just been some crap petrol :)

No way - it's religiously run on Shell V-Power.

I much prefer it with no seats, as it sounds a lot louder and it actually handles better IMO (like getting the back end out :D)

I'm in search of a "raw" experience which is why I very nearly defected to the Honda garage to buy a Civic Type R.

But how many people buy V Max and how long has that tank full of fuel been

stood. Filled up with V Max in Leighton Buzzard last month and it was less than

95 RON at my local!

What I meant to say is that it was doing it for more than one tankful of V-Power.

I've even tried disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU then especially raping it (10mpg sorta stuff) to get it to re-learn but it was still doing it.

But now, the difference is night and day, I have boost, it feels fast again but I've done f*ck all to make it right again.

What was annoying me was that some days it would be really sh!te, and some it would tear my face off. It was just a bit unreliable.

IMO the ECU is too intelligent.
