Seatbelt warning on 99 Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've recently bought my '99 Octavia GLXi hatchback which is in pretty good order, and was wondering if the car should have a warning tone and corresponding light in the instrument binnacle to 'nag' one to wear the belts; I've seen in the book of words that there is a lamp (bottom left) but that has not lit up at all, and the asterisk against the handbook entry indicates an option depending on market I think. So, the question is, does a UK market car have this fitted and how can it be re-enabled?

Regards Loopy

Don't know for sure, but my 2002 Elegance (same place in post-facelift range AIUI) has both (well all 3 if you include the airbag one). AIUI the tone can be enabled/disabled by a dealer or a VAG COM. OTOH mine is also only activated by the driver's seat and belt.

If you do a search you should find the details I posted recently regarding the coding of the seatbelt chime on a MK1.

My 99 Glx doesn't have a seatbelt warning.

Some of the earlier cars didn't have it I think.

Hmmm...Thanks for your input folks,

I found your posting Stu, thanks; having had a rummage beneath the front seats I can find no cabling in the area of the seatbelt latch and its mounting and on that premise can only conclude it ain't got any warning apparatus, I'm bidding on ebay for a cable to use VAG-COM and see what it's all about, the Octavia having replaced a company-owned Mondeo that all I had to do was fill up and drop off at the garage when the spanner came up......I'm reckoning on keeping it for a year or so and then replacing with a late-ish Fabia. Enjoying the Octavia so far tho!

Thanks Loopy

NO!! wiring!? I'd have expected more or less all Octys to have airbags and pre-tensioners, which require wiring to the "buckles".
