Disallusioned

Hi,

I joined a couple of weeks ago and I am disillusioned at the replies given to posts made.

Seems to me 90% of replies are made for no reason than to inflate a personal ego which other people can instantly recognize as from people lacking in intelligence.

A post I made was answered very well by LUMMOX and yet I got a silly reply from TEFLON **** telling me to put sawdust in my gearbox.

A similar sort of reply has been made back to ak89 when he asked about drilling his airbox. once again an intelligent reply from Lummox and then some idiot wrote to paint a yellow stripe on his roof.

Please give the people who make a post, a box to tick for replies that are insulting or negative so anyone with complaints, lose there right to post

There is a 'report post' button, and the mods do ask for it to be used...

found at bottom left of all posts... hth

I like the Briskoda Humor. Its just a bit of fun aswell.

I seem to recall Mr Grumpy and I discussing this very same point at the weekend.

The conclusion was that any technical questions should be answered by someone with considerable experience, such as Lummox, VRSStu to name a couple, particularly if you are a freedom member using Ask A Tech.

As has been said before, the report post is there for a reason.

As has been pointed out above, please do use the Report Post button located to the left of your screen and indicated with an exclamation mark.

Moderators cannot and do not read all posts so this is your chance to bring something to our attention.

That wasn't exactly what I said, no.

With 9 posts under your belt I hardly see how you can be the judge and jury on how a forum like Briskoda is run.

Stick around a while, get to know people's personalities and then make your own opinions.

If I made the same conclusions from your above posts as you have of other, I would suggest doing a quick search on personality remmaps. Seems like you need one.

(report post button just in the bottom corner... HTH)

Are you all saying that all posts made are not serious unless made to "FREEDOM"..........Kind of defeats the object of an intelligent forum to me!

i think, if we give those troublesome members the benfit of air time, they will continue. Best off ignoring/reporting posts and then they'll get bored and go on corsa forums where the banter is more their level...

I got p!ssed off a long time ago, but this tactic does wor, but needs a 'whole-forum' approach...

99% of members are amiable (freedom or not!), just remember that!!

To be honest Tom knows a lot about some areas and I am sure that put sawdust in the gearbox was a joke. I would personally see it as an obvious joke, and if i may have put a post up saying thanks, and please keep the replies to serious answers only.

Your original post on this thread, for example, falls foul or the forum rules by entering into personal abuse.

People have already said there is a report post button, which helps flag a post to them.

Yup and yup again to the above!!!

Better off without persons like that  , no need to go into personal abuse. I find Briskoda a great site and there are always the regulars on here and people are friendly and willing to help, yes there are some silly posts and replies but thats what makes this site a great place!!!!!

I would have thought that most people into

just looked at Teflon Toms reply in that thread, and most strikingly the use of the smiley at the end of his post kinda gave the game away that it was a tongue in cheek, throw away type comment.. Seems some people need to get off their 'high horses' before using 'public forums'.. if hes THAT concerned about getting the correct advise, why not pay through the nose for a 'specialist mechanic' to diagnose the problem? if the guy had a 250,000 pound super/hyper car, you could half expect his 'uppyness',but considering he has an 'every day- blokey in the street ' kinda car Im suprised he has a high horse too..

ahh well, C'Est La Vie

TeflonTom is certainly somewhat of a wag :D :D

But, if you want someone to help - someone who really really seems to know the Felicia (and appears to be thoroughly professional in his outlook with respect to the car and his project) I suggest you 'talk nice' to him.

Aside from that - people do get a bit frisky on Brisky, take it with a pinch of salt

And, certainly, no need to get a bit 'uppity'.

You'll find, on the whole, that Brisky members will most certainly go out of their way to help - so, grin and bear the occasional 'misdemeanour'.

Just ask nicely is all. :) :) :)

shhh! :sofahide:

nobody's supposed to know....

Reading the actual thread, you did get given advice... and then the humour came...

What would this place be like with no harmless stupiness/calamity?

a droll place me thinks...

Very droll, Sonic.

BillyGeorge, don't go, stick around and you'll soon find who the good guys are.

Everybody else, yes banter helps make a forum what it is, but sometimes it does stray into the wrong places. The technical forums (not just the Freedom Ask a Tech) are there for people to get help and advice on their cars. Banter can be distinctly unhelpful in those forums, not just because it gives the person posting the question the impression that we don't care about their problem, but because it dilutes the thread. Someone else with the same problem may come along later and never find the answer to that question because they get "disallusioned" ;) half way through.

As has been said before "report post" is there to help us keep things under control.

Billy, we did have said box to leave postiive or negative comments...but it got abused by a few people. They thought it would be funny or amusing to mess with peoples reputation.

The site needs some humour, god knows I doubt anybody goes to stores for a long *weight* anymore or a box of spirit level bubbles.

I like it so long as it does not distract from the objective of the first post in the thread. If it goes to far or is wholy unapproriate then report it.

Some areas are pre-loaded with an assumption it stays on topic, eg the hotel where some quite interersting topics crop up and are free of spoils, they maybe humourus or at your own expense, but they typically follow the course and mood ofthe original poster. Other areas, less so.

For example lets take a question, what are the best tyres?

round black ones at a guess...

on it's own useless and of course leaves the thread starter feeling a little cold, but with qualification of

round and black I guess, depends on your requirements, track, fast road, wet, snow...what do you need them for?

We maintain an element of humour and develop some knowledge in the thread too, the point here being a community that replies with sinlge liners does not work as effectively as it could. :)

One more scenario...

Need help with

Instant reply:

>Use Search.

Hang on this is true yes, but cold as a bottol of chilled beck, but nowhere near as useful.

Now if we tries to take the time to say:

>This topic comes up quite often, I know x or y about it. You may find other answers usign the search tool.

With this sort of reply we add a little warmth, if you know nothing about the topic, wait for a reply or use search and post some examples if you have the time...

Just don't waffle on like me, it's a bad character trait apparantly and increases your potential for typos and gramatical errors, but I can't bring myself to reply to everything with dots and dashes.

HTH :D

:iagree:

This annoys me alot. If you have so little time as to only be able to post this short 'use search' comment, stop , and donbt post anything at all...

Well BillyGeorge, I see that although you are leaving us, you are still on Briskoda as I type, checking up on your thread. It

Once upon a time there was a person called Billy, Billy is getting quite old now but still has his wits about him.

Billy has owned lots of cars in his time, his first brand new car was a Mini in 1971, it cost
