New addition 1.8t 20v Slxi

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've recently bought a second hand Octy mk1 Slxi 20v turbo. Has anyone got one of these or has had one that wouldn't mind giving me some pointers on what to watch out for. It has fake wood dash trim which reeks of old mans cruiser. I'm going to change it. Anyone changed the dash trim on a mk1 octy? was it a pain in the **** or relatively straight forward? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Lots of posts about mine around the place, and some pics in my gallery. No fake wood trim though.

Welcome to Briskoda!

Cheers for the quick response Nick, the octy is our second car to go with our '07 Fabia vRS SE. We needed something a little bit bigger and when the Fiance's Fiat Bravo Hgt decided that the its big end had had enough we were left needing another car and so bought the Slxi. I would have prefered a vRS but we couldn't afford one after buying the Fabia.

Get a remap and you won't regret your choice :)

I was thinking about a remap but the car has done 76k and I thought this might be a bit high for uping the power. When you had yours done who did it and what did it cost If you dont mind me asking? What power was it making then? Did you uprate the clutch or anything else? New Turbo? Induction kit? Cheers in advance for the info Nick.

Straight Jabba remap - 150->200bhp. Had it done at circa 35k sold car with 80k and no noticeable effects apart from the extra smiles.

No need to do anything else if you don't fancy it. Buy a panel filter (Green or K&N), put some better front brake pads in, and you have a very nice car. I put VRS springs and shocks on mine thanks to someone who uprated to coilovers. This firmed up the ride and got rid of some of the body roll. Uprated ARBs might have had just as much effect if not more.

hi guys,

sorry for hijacking your thread.

i got very simmilar vehicle octy 1.8t 20v elegance, 2001, aum engine.

let me just ask about the above mentioned vrs springs and shocks.

the former owner of my car replaced front and rear shocks last year.

can i fit vrs springs to standard elegance shocks?

are vrs shocks different than the ones found in elegance 1.8t or not?

do i need any aditional bits for this suspensions mod?

what uprated brake pads would you recommend?

cheers

igor

Springs are interchangeable AFAIK.

Post facelift (including yours) I think the shocks are also interchangeable. Pre facelift they don't have the little attachment for the droplink on the back of the strut, but that doesn't matter going backwards, if you see what I mean.

No, you don't need any extra bits other than tools - spring compressors, and some means of undoing the nut at the top of the strut (a friendly tyre fitter did mine with an impact wrench - very difficult to do by hand).

Pads - I have Ferodo DS2500s which have now done upwards of 50k miles and still have a way to go before they become illegal. Other options include EBC, Pagid, or Black Diamond. The Ferodos are pretty much reckoned (by concensus on this forum) to be the best for performance, durability and lack of fade, but are expensive (between

cheers for very quick reply:thumbup:

so i should be able to fit vrs springs directly to my shocks.

skoda dealers charge more than 200 pounds for 4 springs:thumbdwn:

i was also thinking of bilstein streetline kit which costs around 235 quid delivered , inc vat from

Bilstein / Streetline Suspension Kits / GOLF MK4 1.8GTi / Euro Performance Car Parts

the kit contains 4 oem gas shocks and for 25mm lowered springs.

it is meant to be used in golf mk4 1.8t. i am not sure weather it can be fitted into octavia. local garage service guy thinks that it should fit with no probs at all.

have you got any experience with something like that?

for pads, i was thinking about ferodo ds2500 as well. i'll definitly buy it.

have you probably noted down the part numbers for s3 strut braces?

cheers

I'd check that out as i think the spring rates are totally different mate

No sorry can't help on the Bilstein kit. Lummox may be able to assist there. I think the S3 strut brace part numbers are probably on here somewhere - I don't have them. Try a search, or if that doesn't work, just call your local Audi parts dept. They're not expensive.

thanks a lot guys.

i just phoned reading audi and they have strut braces. so no need for numbers.

for springs i'll wait until fatty5000 checks that out as i wouldn't like to buy wrong rated springs at all.

Sorry mate i ain't 100% on the spring rates but i remember reading on here sometime ago that the golf aint as heavy on the back end so the rears are different

How about giving awesome a ring/email they would be better to ask than me

great idea! they will know the answer 100%

they have something interesting for octy 18t, Koni STR.T Suspension Kit at 250 + vodka and tonic.

that sounds very good. 100 pounds more then just a set of vrs springs from skoda dealers.

my shocks were all replaced last year by the former owner. i am not sure about fitting some aftermarket 25 to 35mm lower springs on oem shocks. koni sport springs ( 35mm lower) are available at 100 all inc.

Slxi Turbo eh? Nice car , I had one in 2001 , didnt have the old man wood trim tho. I'd assume its a stick on extra from either the dealer accessory book or a Halfords type place. Has yours got the full leather with heated seats?

This was mine.

Yeah it has in lovely black (thank God its not tan like in a L & K That would make the old man wee stink even worse!) The trim is on the centre console and around the heater vents and it has to go! It says rapier on the ash tray door as well, was this a special trim or something? Never heard of an Octavia Rapier before.

Rapier? Nope , it didnt say that on mine (black leather on my old one , too!) Maybe it was a dealer special edition? The fake wood is usually a stick on kit , so you could probably remove it by treating it like a big posh sticker! Hairdryer and lots of gentle prising , then some sort of interior cleaner to get rid of the leftover traces of glue etc.
