mk1 octavia vrs 0-60

Featured Replies

hey all,

could someone help me, how much power and what mods would be needed to get the vrs to do 60 in 6 seconds.

cheers

You could probably ask 100 members and get 100 different answers on this one.

Browse the forums and see what others have done to give you some ideas.

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/technical-guides/octavia-carlsberg-dont-tune-skodas-but-if-they-did-they-would-like/49990/?highlight=carlsberg is a good starting point.

Also consider whether you want to be able to stop quickly and turn quickly as well as accelerate quickly - brake mods and handling mods should go hand in hand (if not before) power mods.

yeah i know, but surely the car handels well, and has got better than average brakes.

but i yeah i know what ur sayin.

cheers

I think the jury is still out on the handling issue from my point of view anyway.

I don't think the handling is all that good tbh but then it is a fast family car reallynot a hot hatch. Getting the power down down is the hard part asr light flickers on corners and roundabout all the time and in the wet forget it

Having said that i love my car even for all it's little fault's

isnt it 4wd, at times.

what is the suspension like then? firm?

Nope the vrs aint 4x4 its front wheel drive

Its firm but it ain't that firm and the back end is under sprung so its a bit bouncey

They did a 4x4 but not in the vrs only a 150bhp i think these are quite rare and you don't get the big bumper or the annoying white seats

The vRS is 2wd only. The standard ride I would describe as ok for normal driving, but can be a bit soft when making progress.

Aye wallowy, bouncy and a bit carp in high winds a few people have found

If you stripped it of enough weight it could probably achieve 0-60 in 6s without any more power. To achieve it without weight saving I would guess you could just do it on the standard turbo but with all the bolt ons and a good remap. with it being fwd though grip will be the deciding factor.

The big bumper isn't that expensive though; my 4x4 has one and so does Bengie's.

Didn't bother with the seats then lol

doesnt skoda say its electronically 4wd?

or is that the 150bhp one?

No it's the 150bhp is only part time 4x4 it works on a haldex controller i think

i.e. its frony wheel drive until they spin then it shifts power to the rear

I'm sure eddy will correct me if i'm wrong

That's basically it.

It's commonly called permanently available 4wd. e.g. it's always there but the rears are only activated when needed; as you say when the fronts slip. With an aftermarket controller though like the one I have it's a little more proactive and kicks in before slip is detected.

ok. is it possible to retrofit onto the vrs?

would 250bhp be enough to do 60 in 6 seconds?

what is the best way toreduce weight on the vrs?

ok. is it possible to retrofit onto the vrs?

Anything is possible but don't expect it to cost under

obviously to take things out. but what? or is replacing body panels with lighter/carbon fibre ones the way to go?

would it be possible to get 250bhp (ish) from, a really good air intake kit, sport cats and back box, and a good remap?

Removing interior trim and sound-proofing is a good start...

Stuff to take out is spare wheel and toolkit, back seats, carpets. Basically anything you're happy to do without.

With the mods you mention you're looking at 230-235bhp. To get the max from the standard turbo you would need modified intake, FMIC, turbo back exhaust, 99ron fuel and a good remap. Even then 250bhp would be the upper limit and I personally think it would be more like 240-245bhp. I've been there and done it twice!

cheers.

how come companies do claim to give %25 power increase from a re-map?but in reality its more like %15.

id like to aim at 250bhp and reduce the weight by enough to feel a difference, something like 150-200kg.

a vrs that is as quick as a 330i would be nice, thats kinda what im aiming for.

thanks for all the comments, much appreciated.

A standard one ain't that much slower than a 330

  • Author

its a fair bit slower,

180 bhp compared to 230?

and 0-60= 6.3 compared to 8

a 323 would be the same as a vrs, top end tho the vrs would win tho

There's quite a bit of difference. ;)

hey i'm wrong again lol

ah well.....

(gets coat)
