Fabia vRS 05 - Rough at idle

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Fabia vRS on an 05 plate done approx 20k miles.

When the car is idling there is a noticeable judder? The revs do not fluctuate at all.

I noticed that if give the car a slight touch on the gas then the judder disapears?

I have had the car for about 5months and have put up with the problem upto now but its embarrasing when taking people out, because when we come to a stand still at traffic lights its like your sat in a John Deer tractor.

Has anyone else had this problem? Or have any idea what it could be?

Thanks

Hi no such problem on my 05 21K Vrs. Is your car due a service or near the service mark?.

No such problem on my 05 14k VRS either. Interesting how it's not related to the revs, because that would usually be the cause. The only other thing that springs to mind is engine mounts.

^ I'd second that. Can't really explain why, but mine always seems to be smoother (and has better fuel economy) with new oil in... Could be a fuel quality issue - do you use 'City Diesel' or something like BP Ultimate?

My 53plate 40k VRS has the same problem. I've no idea what causes it and in six months of ownership it has not changed or apparantly caused a problem. The car is coming up for a service soon so i will see what skoda says. I don't think it is fuel quality related as I only use Shell diesel and the problem persists.

There are some suggestions on this thread...

I use Shell diesel so it cant be down to fuel quality.

The problem is also still there when the air con is turned on.

It occasionaly stops and you dnt notice anything.

I have been in touch with Skoda Manchester and have booked it in next week for them to have a look at so once they diagnose the problem I will post it.

I started the other thread mentioned. Today heard that Skoda do not know of the problem but have asked the garage (Barkers, Grimsby) to investigate. It's going in next Tuesday and my wife will be given a courtesy car as they 'are keeping the vrs until the problem is sorted out'. We will see. The vibration mostly goes when teh air con is switched on but can come back whilst it is on.

A bit like my wife...

Sorry I thought you said rough and idle.

Engine/gearbox mounts sound favourite.

Hello

My 55plate vrs fabia does the same thing. 33k miles and well loved and it judders. Some people say it relates to the ERG valve, exhaust gas regulator. It is for the euro 4 emissions standards i think, but myself ??? What ever it is it shouldn't do it.

I have checked fault codes and there isn't any and tried different fuels also.

Hi

I might have solution of your problem

I work at a skoda dealer as master tech

What you need to do is go to your local dealer

and there can adjust idle speed by adjusting injector quantity. hope this helps

I use Shell diesel so it cant be down to fuel quality.

Just because you use Shell, doesn't mean it can't be a fuel issue.

My local Shell is served by the same tanker as serves the local Sainsburys as are a lot of others. It's all the same!

You need to get it plugged in to see what codes come off it.

Does the idling settle down after you've given it a dab on the accelerator? If so, it could be a knackered EGR valve.

probably being a bit daft here but is it the gearstick? this has rattled a lot on idle on all my vrs fabia's and does feel like a judder.

I get this sometimes too, it just seems to idle a little lower sometimes which is the cause on mine, doesn't really bother me though.

Welcome aboard, word to the wise, dont advertise they are watching you.

:)

I get this 06 VRS. A forward shudder as opposed to a sideways shudder. Had it from day 1 and am not too bothered about it, wait a minute. Yes i am, but My thoughts are is that it is to do with the EGR valve, not a problem, more a characteristic of this engine

Took the car to Skoda Manchester.

On the way there while driving on the m/way I noticed that at high speed there was a distinct blowing noise from the rear of the car. I thought straight away the exhaust will be blowing from a hole in the pipe.

Once arriving at the dealer I told the service team about the rough idle on the car(which the car had already been and they had ordered parts for) and about the blowing noise. The gentleman behind the desk said leave it with us and we'll find out the problem. I asked him if someone could take the car for a test drive once the problems were fixed to make sure it was running ok.

To cut a long story short, when I picked the car up. The dealer had replaced the ECU, so my car was now back on the standard map but the rough idle had gone. The car did have a Revo remap, maybe this was the cause of the problem?

But the blowing was still there. I Had my car serviced this week, and the mechanic showed me my exhaust while it was up in the air. How Skoda didnt noticed the mid section of the exhuast pipe in half I dont know?

Anyway got the welder out and welded it back up, problem solved.

The only dissapointment is the fact my car is now back as standard.

Having the clutch changed this week to a paddle clutch so thinking of an Angel Remap this time round.
