they are faster, sound better and have way more traction than the vRS

but you will pay more on fuel, tyres, insurance, servicing etc etc and get attention from idiots wanting to race.

my mate has a jap import STi and its the best sounding thing i have heard :)

They are better than the vRS in most ways. As Bengie said, they are quicker, and they will be quicker than a remapped Octavia also.

I would love to have one, but the insurance is too much for me.

I can't see why this has been moved?

having owned a few jap performance machines i can say that all they have caused me is pain,my latest one, a skyline, has been typical of the rest ,great untill the novelty wears off then expensive all round, not that comfortable, the great noise gets annoying and they only do 200 miles on a tank of petrol,my skyline is on its way as we speak but when i get the itch again no doubt i will again dip into the love/hate relationship that is performance jap ownership.IMHO you drive the better car now save yourself some pain and keep it.

Having owned both an Octavia vRS and a Lancer evo II GSR (260BHP) , I read the above comment and say 'Amen to that!'

Where did you think it was?

The problem with the WRX's of the Bug Eye era is that the c h a v s can now afford them. That not only means you get more unwanted attention but also the insurance takes a hit too.

I had a lovely 52 Plate WRX in WR blur with loads of extra's but the extra attention, high insurance etc just pi$$ed me off.

They do sound lovely, there is nothing like it.

Look out for history both good and bad. Signs of dodgy modding. Pay a little more to get a good car.

Where did you think it was?

It was moved to the General Car Section. Now moved back?

I have to say they do sound amazing with a decent exhaust (like a tuned aircooled 'Dub...nice!), and I have been tempted a few times to get one , but after having the Evo , I'm not sure I'd like another car where I'm afraid to take it places , and that youre always worrying if its ok , and so on. Plus , the cost of insurance , tracker , cat 1 alarm etc , and road tax will be

Had a Scooby that was lightly modded and loved every minute of ownership. Was a daily driver and even with a 50 mile each way daily commute, I never tired of the noise, performance or running costs. Suspension was well set up and was comfortable enough on non-stop run from Southampton to the Lake District but sorted enough to keep the car flat through the twisty stuff. Tyres lasted 20k on the fronts, and a fair bit longer on the rears and the 7.5k servicing (cheaper than VAG prices!!!) on the classic shape, extended to 10k on the bug and blob eye. 250-300 miles out of a tank on my commute which was fast A and B roads and a bit of town at the other end.

Insurance was Gp17, but required a Tracker and Cat 1 alarm, which most of the new cars will already have fitted. Parked it anywhere and everywhere and never had any issues with people trying to nick it (although it was debadged). If you want anonymity, consider an estate one.....

If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to answer them :D

Are they? Plenty I know running over 400bhp reliably ;)

Chris

the engines are perfectly fine as long as they are treated properly and serviced on time everytime :)

agree 100%, bottom end knock about the only thing to look for on a well serviced example, don't touch one with no history tho.

bottom end? they are flat :P

i take it you are referring to the big ends?

Quicker than a remapped vRS Octy? Not in my experience :D:D

a standard WRX does 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and the better WR1 does it in 4.1 and i know your remapped vRS ain't doin that mate!

they are quick but not a lot quicker on the move than a remapped octavia as standard but they can remapped too :)

Don't know what the 0-60 of mine is, but it isn't as fast as that!! Tyres don't seem to stick to the tarmac very well :o:O

Any experiences I've had with WRX's on road or track didn't lead me to believe that they were noticeably faster than the vRS :D:D

thats a modified vRS against a stand WRX though :P

not sure what the WRX's remap to but i bet they go better afgterwards ;)

A guy in my village has a WRX STi Prodrive one, and damn is it quick and the sound is oh so goddamn nice. The big plus is 4 wheel drive, so much more fun can be had!

But it cost him a hell of a lot to buy, and it costs him shed loads in Shell Ultimax which he has to put in and the insurance is very expensive too. Is it worth all the extra costs when a Octy vRS is already a very nice car?

Unfortunately, a lot of Scoobies aren't driven to their full potential.

i drive my car beyond its potential at times :o

I guess whether it's worth it will be down to the individual, but I would take one over an Octy vRS any day ;)
