What about a Mondeo then? :P

Yeah I'd take that over an Octy vRS any day too ;)

Are they? Plenty I know running over 400bhp reliably ;)

Chris

And i've found there are lots running less power unreliably

i'll just accept that the people i know that have been unfortunate enough to find about a dozen imprezas of all sorts of different variants that have all had the big ends let go,all have been owned by sensible drivers that treat them right and service them regularly so i guess it must of been a bad batch of engines between 1994 and 2000:rofl:

are they quick? off the start yes, but when rolling not that startling

would i own one? no

Maybe they were all serviced by the same dealer? :P FWIW, I ran the Hampshire Subaru group and we had 50+ Impreza turbos (ranging from '93 to '04) with only one that had any engine problems at all and that was Stuart J's import STi 3....

Chris

I have heard from an Ex-Subaru technician that certain Subaru dealers do not service Imprezas how they should, instead cutting corners. Something to do with packing turbos  (Ages ago - can't remember the details)

well i'm not saying that there aren't impezas running reliably but there must be issues with big end bearings for so many different cars i know to have big end problems,as i say different variants of different ages serviced by different people, just think it only fair to give any prospective buyer a heads up about possible problems rather than not mentioning it

If you single out all the bad cars. Then every car has their own common problems.

Don't forget, all the good and well cars that are going about.

Have decided to stick with the vrs just treated it to a full stainless system. When you take insurance/fuel/and cost to buy its just not giving enough to warrent it over the vrs. Thanks for the info big help!

like i allready said you drive the better car now and you have deffinatly made the correct choice imho.

Just dont like them personally, Think they look crap, and they are really over rated. the interior is plasticy and the seats are like cardboard boxes too expensive too. would much rather have an RS4/6.

Well if I had a

I had an 03 WRX with Prodrive Performance Pack for 3 years before getting my Furby for teaching driving in. Absolutely outstanding car, and reliable as the day is long. In 3 years and over 40k miles I suffered 2 faulty exhaust sensors (one fixed on warranty, the other 38 quid DIY) and a foobarred wheel bearing (my fault for running semi-racing tyres). Insurance was under 600 quid (even with a Leeds postcode and mods declared) and if I drove like Miss Daisy I could get 400 miles to a tank (32.75mpg). Performance was quoted at 0-62 in 4.8s and 155mph, although I had the needle past where the numbers ran out and on its way back 'round again on many occasions. There is a secret to modding Scoobs to make them fast road cars. Don't blindly chase power ! The handling isn't the best even with the 4WD, so good chassis and suspension products will allow you to more fully expolit the available performance. My car was 265PS (261.5bhp) but with AST coilovers, uprated ARB's, RE070 tyres and a geometry set-up by a Williams F1 technician I could easily see off cars with over 400bhp. The next best mod you can do in a Scoob is to learn to drive properly. I took some training from a Police Class1 Pursuit Driver and learned Roadcraft, and to improve the performance of my car a similar level with products would have been either very expensive or damn nigh on impossible (cornering speeds went from 90ish to 130+). I will have another, and soon I hope. They are fantastic, and you just don't realise until you have one.

MY SCOOB :brkheart:

And a great transferable mod too ;)

Certainly is. My little Furby now does very well utilising the techniques honed during my Scooby years

Are you the same Corradoboy as on scoobynet, I too have left the scoob world behind, well the drive, I had a PPP WRX Wagon Bugly eye DBM, stunning car, but the cost especially the repair costs were huge, forked out a four figured sum and the problem still remained, engine management light kept coming on everytime I popped into 5th gear on the motorway, a few minutes later loss of power and a dead scoob. :( BTW I was Russ71 on there part of the 'South Wales Scooby's'........Yes I know the grammar is all to shot it should be Scoobies, but hey what the hell :D

It is good Ive left the expense behind and the jumped up little sh!ts in their saxos no longer want to race me :D It certainly is a stress free life in the VRS.

They are better than the vRS in most ways. As Bengie said, they are quicker, and they will be quicker than a remapped Octavia also.

Not in my experience, not quicker than a CTR either. They're quick to 60 but their 0-100 is around the same as a hot hatch which has a slower 0-60 which implies they're fast from standstill but not so much when rolling. That's all relating to a standard UK WRX as mentioned in the first post not an STI or WR1 etc...

They're quick to 60 but their 0-100 is around the same as a hot hatch

Didn't the video Phil took of Bengie and his remapped cars against a WRX suggest otherwise as they didn't gain on the WRX at all, all the way down the runway?

Chris

I thought Bengie's turbo was knackered back then.

0-100 for a UK WRX is around 16s same as a CTR.

Maybe, but Phil was running 220 (Jabba) bhp in his Elegance?

How does that Jbhp convert to bhp though don't you multiply by 0.87 or something like that? :P

Anyway as I said I was only going on my experience from when I had a CTR and when I had a remapped Octy. I never had the chance to compare from a standing start though.

You should know not to doubt subarus performance eddy cos there the best thing since sliced bread you know lol

Oh Oh .. Completely off topic. But how do you find the CTR, compared to a Remapped Octavia? Performance wise....

Or a Scooby

Or a Stealth Fighter

I looked into buying a new WRX about a year ago but the cost of the insurance put an end to the idea. This is due to the scoob being the vehicle of choice for burglars who break into your house for the car keys and have away with your pride and joy.

The Mazda has slightly less performance credentials (and only slightly more MPG), looks alot more subdued, and is missing the gorgeous flat four burble, but it keeps me happy. Touch wood, no-ones tried to break in to me hoose yet either.
