Sudden death on a 1.4 16v 100bhp?

Featured Replies

The other day, making my way to the motorways to get from London to Rochdale, I'd gone through High Wycombe to pick up the other half.. I'm flying down the country lanes they've got there... all fine, cars going brilliantly!.. then, nothing..

No bang, no click, no bleep.. nothing, the engine had died with no warning!

First thing I knew was the needles falling to there rest position, and then the perseption of loosing speed!.. (music was louder than engine)

Pulled over, waited a sec,.. looked for leaks, steam or exxcessive heat.. nothing. Tried agian, cars fine, like 100% perfect,.. then made my way through the 4 hour motorway trip with not even a cougth.

Any thoughts? only thing I can say is the light for the Traction control came on (it's an elegance)... but no others, didn't even get the EPC!

Any thoughts, is it safe?

Taa,

Rob.

Sounds like you need someone with vagcom to read any faults to see what it was ..............could be so many things

that would tend to indicate a catastrophic electrical failure, which in my experience is relatively easily fixed once you've found it!!!

This sounds exaxtly what happenned to me. The car dies (most of the time momentarily) when doing about 80 on the motorway. I searched the forums and posted about it before but got little response.

It has happened to me regularly since i owned the car about once every 2 months. It went into the dealer 3 times when under warranty but was never sorted. Apparently they couldn't find anything in VAG-COM but i got the impression they knew more than they were telling me. The Lambada sensor and the crank position sensor were replced but the fault kept occuring. Have just learnt to live with it but have now decided to change cars anyway after having too many reliability problems with it.

Sorry i couldnt help more but another poster with the same problem got rid of his too before it was fixed.

Ben

When this happens and when you open the car door, does the convenience light (dome light) come on, or are you completely out of electricity?

When is it exactly that the tc light comes on, while you are coasting to a stop or stopped? Does your radio shut off?

Somewhere on here I've seen something like this attributed to a loose ground cable and/or bad battery/battery leads. You might want to take a quick look at that.

No electrical failure (that i notcied) at all.. Radio kept playing, dash satyed live.. it as litteraly (sorry, dislexic) like i had grabbed the key and twisted it one turn back to only turn off the engine...

The TC light (i think, was busy trying to stop safley) came of when the engine died, but could have been while coasting and braking.. can't be sure eigther, but almost def took it outta gear stright away. (only passed test 9 months ago, the stalling restarting relfex is still in me head) ;-)

sounds like a dodgy immob/ecu issue to me.

Given that you had electricity, I would look into that too.

Might be worth having a look at the connections on the ignition barrel then, if the obvious stuff on under the bonnet has already been looked at?

All I can say is HOW do folks manage to sell the damn cars with the fault lights on? I hate my skoda. I presently STILL have lambada sensor light, and the reason I have logged onto the site today is that my PAS light is now on. I am pig sick of it I tell you. I will never ever buy a skoda again. Wish I could sell mine..

Is that the one that tells you when to dance?

Sorry to hear about your car problems though, was it bought recently and can the dealer not help?

Andy.

So why not get them sorted?

Buy a Vauxhall, then you will really know the purpose of an engine management light, to annoy you on a weekly basis..lol.

Or a Renault... My Megane was like Christmas all year round...

dont know if this helps mate but that sounds exactly the same as what happened on my old mkIII golf. no warning or anything just completely cut out and was then fine after. it would do it intermittently which was a real worry. it turned out to be a duff relay in the fuse box. i cant remember which one it was and im at work at the mo but ill try and get some pics up tonight for you.

hi here's the pics as promised. not great quality though, sorry. as i say im not sure if this will be the problem youre having but it sounds very similar to the one i had. just in case, the part no for the relay is 1j0 906 381 a - the problem was dry joints inside the relay itself. before the new one came i re-soldered it all which was a temporary fix. now my mum has the car and its covered well over 14k with no poblems whatsoever. might be worth a try for the sake of a couple of quid. hope its all sorted soon.

Taa,

Did you get anywhere with this?

I seem to have a similar problem:

BTW there is no relay 109 on the 16v Fabia
