VRS Remap horror stories?

What do people recommend if its too late and you already have a Celting tuning remap? :thumbdwn:

re-remap to standard by Revo and get it Revo'd?

I've had 2 cars remapped by Celtic, without any problems

Just because a couple of people have had problems dosen't mean that everyone has. There are quite a few out there more than satisfied with their maps from Celtic.

I'm sure you'd find a couple of examples from numerous mappers where there have been problems... its just the easy option to blame it on the remap at the end of the day

apparently there is a big spike in the boost pressure at low revs... only boot it above 2.5k and you'll be able to drive around it, as someone else said, loads of people have also had it mapped by them without probs, but I haven't heard of any other maps blowing turbos..... but it could be peoples driving, i never used to worry about looking after the turbo, but post map, I dont boot until the oil is warm, and I let it 'cool' before turning off after a big blat (i.e. drive home the last few miles off boost...)

edit: my EGR valve was replaced at 60k, when it started leaking oil (in my fabia that is!)

you can't blame a remap for longetivity issues on components but it certainly plays it's part.

without the remap my car wouldn't of needed a new gearbox, full new engine mounts, oil wouldn't of being pi$$ing out of intercooler pipes and the water pump wouldn't have failed x3 times, the clutch wouldn't of been on the way out and neither would the turbo.

Come to think of it, it's not the remap which screws the engine, it's the driver. If you drive it like you stole it as I did often the problems above will become common on remapped cars as you are putting more wear and tear on components that simply aren't designed to take it.

but is is bloody good fun, isn't it - so the debate goes full circle. Map it, have fun, and be aware your working the car hard, or leave it alone and be a bit unsatisfied. Its like a bloody addiction, I wish i could leave a car standard. I was only going to remap the VRS when i bought it...

100k in a Fiat!! Have you considered calling these people: Guinness World Records - Home Page ? ;)

Chris

My Punto is on 80k.

Still a great little car!

Nothing wrong with Fiats.

My Punto is on 80k, still a great little car!

My mothers Panda 4x4 went to around 110k and the only reason we got rid was because it rotted away. Went like stink and went up 20% inclines!

Doh, double post!

Does anyone have any views on whats the best switchable Remap?? I'm not looking to push any boundaries I would prefer to go for a safer (If there is one!!!) switchable Remap (Up to about 170). Brother raves on about superchips but I'm going to cover all corners I think..................

Well to be honest thats all a good remap will get you if the rest of the car is standard.

There are several switchable options;

AmD Store - Product

Also CC via VAGCOM and Laptop, and thats free aside the cable because you can use the shareware.

The consensus from the people I speak to who I consider to 'have knowledge' say CC isn't mild as maps go. Superchips just wack every setting up by a %, and have a rep as fairly mild and safe - I know one main dealer who uses them.

Forge do very good TDi mapping, and again, sit on the side of caution over maximum performance. Not switchable at the moment though, I don't think.

revo do a switchable on too don't they ?

star performance do a switcher map aswell.....has one on my old octy:)

k:)
