Octavia 2008 Model Year

Featured Replies

Having had no luck in translating from the Czech site with the info. on it. I took the easy option and emailed Skoda Czech. direct and received back the same day the following info.

Perhaps this solves the problem.

Dear Mr.Girling,

Can we get a confirmation of when MY2008 kicks in?

I was lead to believe ALL models built after week 22 (end of May) are MY2008 - is this correct?

Also heard that the MY2008 Octy gets a shortened aerial mast (antenna) for the standard radio.

Page 16 of the latest Octavia brochure (effective from 1st May-30th June) states the 08 model year starts on the 28th May 2007.

Hopefully mine will be MY2008 then (starts production next week apparently) :D

Not a lot for new vRS owners to look forward to by the looks of it :( ;)

Just the continued enjoyment of driving a vRS, I think I can make do with it! :)

28th May the 2008 Build started. See the attached document.

Although I might be getting an upgraded spec (if it is MY2008) - surely it is better that there is little or no change from the point of view of residuals for people who already have an OctyII?

Not a single word about "bixenon" yet:mad:

Fogs with Corner function? Does that mean the fogs turn with the wheels? Could see the point if that were on the main lights, but not on fogs.

Or do I have the wrong end of the stick again?

Phil

On the Mercedes, at low speed with a significant turn of the steering wheel, a light in the corresponding fog light housing (it may be a separate light) turns on (ie activates, not swivel) providing some extra visibility of the road in that direction. I'm assuming something similar applies here - either the fog light, or a separate light within that housing lights up to provide better lighting. So, explaining it in probably too much detail - if you turn the steering wheel to the left at low speed, the left fog light corner light comes on to provide light in the direction you are going to head to before you get there and the headlights are any use).

It's kinda a poor man's Adaptive Headlight (where the Xenon light unit turns with the steering wheel - optional on Audi, Passats etc.)

Having said that....

From the Skoda UK website for the Roomster:

Cornering Front fog lights - optional on Roomster 2 and 3

Conventional fog lights only ever shine in only one direction, straight ahead, but Cornering Front fog lights actually steer around corners. This considerably reduces the dangers of driving around corners at night. Hazards are illuminated as the car turns into a corner allowing the driver to react quicker and avoid potential accidents.

Whether the lights actually turn on the Octavia I do not know, but it would certainly appear that the corresponding fog light will turn on to aid the driver...

The skoda-auto.com website is maybe more precise in how it works (and doesn't seem to involve the light changing position, which is implied by Skoda UK):

The active fog light system with cornering function knows when you are going to turn a corner. At speeds up to 40km/h the system will shine a fog light into the corner outlining potential obstacles; it can light up the road from an angle of -30
New symbols for control levers below steering wheel

I have a feeling that this is the first move towards adaptive/active Cruise Control. It's already an option in the coding menu.

Any easy way to tell if you have an MY2007 or 2008 car? Mine was built last week so could be either way. Do the 'adaptive' fogs look different?

Maybe best to live in blissful ignorance.

The indicator stalk will be the obvious I would think. I wouldn't say it could be either way, the build dates seem pretty firm.

I agree. Superb seems to get it from the start and the red Octavia that tested brakes in some pics had a front that the sensor could fit in.

I think that I have seen the facelift on a bad pic and I like it.

It only turns on one foglight, not both. I've not heard of any Mercedes drivers being prosecuted either.

ah, i should have noticed the "shines a foglight" rather than "shines both foglights"

Yeah, but you look like a muppet - not only does it look like you have your fog lamps on during the day like some Corsa'd git, but a git with a broken lamp !

wont people start getting stopped by overzealous coppers when their foglights start turning themselves on?

Sat in my mates Ranger Rover last night, they have the same feature!!

oooh, nice touch - I've only seen this on a few Mercedes so far, be nice for Skoda to be ahead of the curve on this - anyone know if it's coming to the rest of the VW range too, or will the Octy stand out from the crowd (for a few months)...

new passats all have this already, ditto with golf, and phaeton and touareg! Sorry! Skoda are still behind times!

Do they? The Passat didn't when I was looking to buy one mid-2006 (and got the Octy instead)

I was wrong. It was things for Yeti they tested.
