Hill Hold Control

Featured Replies

I see that the Scout has Hill-Hold Control As Standard. HHC holds the brakes on slightly after you have release the pedal to assist in hill starts.

I suspect that the feature is solely software within the ESP / ABS system. Has anyone found a method of retrofitting the feature yet through coding or otherwise?

I have to say I don't see the point of it. What's wrong with using the handbrake or clutch control?

According to an engineery type friend, the hill holder function is a feature of the ESP system so I'm guessing not easy to retrofit....

AFAIK, at least the new vRS has this ability as standard

Mine 2006 vRS has the Hill Hold as standard

Yep, have it on my DSG L&K. A normal auto will hold on most hills but with DSG disengaging the clutch with your foot on the brake its nice to have hill hold, but yes a handbrake does the same job!

It is usefull on cars with electric handbrake, it will be coming I suspect on the Superb2.

i have esp on my sport but no hill hold :-(

Correct - It is only available on a few "exclusive" models in the UK :P

I have a 2007 (57) Octavia Scout 2.0 TDi, it doesn't seem to have hill hold control, anyone know if it was a standard fit on the early ones? If so how and when should it operate.

Well I've got it on my 2008 Scout and I did try it out once on a fairly steep hill (Blaydon Bank to be accurate and I was getting my morning paper) but the use of clutch and handbrake is second nature to me so I don't do anything other than that. But I think it could be useful if I am ever stopped on a steep hill with my caravan ( although I would try very hard to avoid that scenario!)

AFAICR the gradient has to be 10% or more for hill hold to work and it will hold for about 2 seconds. I could check this out in the handbook but can't be faffed to go outside and fetch it. So what you could do is go and find a very steep hill, park up and then try to drive off without using the handbrake. If you roll back and kill yourself then you haven't got it. :giggle:

I used to have this on my manual Punto HGT Multijet for crying out loud! Its a piece of the proverbial for the manufacturer to implement via ESP and the brake light switch - clutch depressed, foot on brake, 1st gear selected, bingo - you don't need to use the handbrake. As for the naysayers who think its a waste of time - if you had the feature and used it its very slick and I miss it. I'd pay good money to have it back on my manual VRS if anybody (Shark - Ben?!!) wants to take up the challenge!
