front wheel spin

Featured Replies

anyone else experiencing this?

I'm just talking about a spritely take off in 1st gear not launching from a starting grid.

If the road is a bit wet then it's easy to 'light them up' especially if you have a little more power then you ought to.

enjoy it while your young.. :D when i 1st got mine revo'd they were spinning in 3rd & 4th gear.. allrite now tho.. ;)

I understand the fact that it can very easily happen in the wet,but it sometimes happens on dry roads too...maybe my right foot is too heavy:confused:

Or theres not as much rubber as there used to be :)

I find I have to be careful and feather the throttle in 1st if I am hoofing it away... :)

Oh dear, this thread really makes me appreciate my octy 4x4; no wheelspin no matter what the weather or how silly you are. Think the new car (have a VRS on order) may be a bit of a dissapointment in this respect.

It is unfortunately (IMO) due to the very poor suspension setup on skodas, hence why they dont handle very well either, and just one of the reasons (of many) why I got rid of mine.

The setup just cant cope with it, the ESP/traction control has to work overtime, and forget switching t off! I hardly ever see the ESP light on the Mondeo unless i'm doing it intentionally.

I'm glad you qualified all that with 'IMO'

The handling on the Octy II VRs is widely regarded as excellent and on a par with the Golf GTi on which it is based.

Show me a front wheel drive car with 200bhp that does have traction issues in first gear when you hoof it and I'll show you a bear that doesn't sh!t in the woods :)

Mine does it in 1st/2nd and if it's damp enough, 3rd, and that's with a Quaife and ESP (on) - it keeps things interesting...

Well I for one would say my Octavia II handled like a dream. Even with 140BHP it would upset the ESP if suitably provoked so 200BHP or 170BHP and bags of torque is guaranteed to get that orange light blinking.

I have OE Dunlops on mine and they will spin on either some steep and tight turning junctions even when dry and it also does it sometimes at wet greasy junctions.

A lot of power delivered in first from that 2.0 TDI/DSG and it shows under adverse starting conditions.

What's a Mondeo?

It's like a Vectra I think

I didn't think swearing was allowed on this forum? :D

I think that must be a polar bear over there then!

Yes it is IMO, having driven both extensively I feel i'm quite well qualified to hold an opinion.

Trust me, if you want to see what a nice handling car drives like, and one that puts its power down on the tarmac properly rather than spinning it all away, then drive a mondeo st (petrol or diesel version). you may mock the mondeo but it's a far superior vehicle.

A bit, but either way it's still better than anything Skoda offer.

It could handle like a Lotus Elise mate for all I care but I still wouldn't want one.

For me, it doesn't rate highly on the desireability stakes, and that's coming from someone who drives a Skoda!

1st, 2nd and 3rd - I get the ESP light blipping on from time to time particularly exiting roundabouts etc. and that's in a vRS TDI!

Problem is that the TDI comes 'on boost' more strongly that the TFSI so have to be careful not to be caught out.

However, its all down to the laws of physics; just try and be smoother with throttle application and let your own 'little grey cells' be your traction control.

Ive heard the Fabia 2.0l can light up all 4 tyres... ;)

I agree mate, certainly not a car I would consider.

Lol, badge snobbery from a Skoda driver? thats a new one.

I'd hardly describe the Octavia/Fabia or any Skoda for that matter as desirable?

Your loss then mate, coming from someone with the experience of both cars, I can wholehartedly say that the Mondeo is better in every respect.

I get far more compliments in the Mondeo from paying customers, than any of the Skodas, people still just dont take them seriously, and they certainly dont desire them, even when people do compliment the Skoda they always finish their sentance with "still wouldn't have one though".

I'm not saying the Octavia isn't a good car btw, just that I dont think it handles or puts its power down anywhere near well enough for a sporty car.

(just incase anyones wondering, I own a cab fleet of 130 cars including ST's & VRS's etc so i think that qualifies my opinion)

(scousers accent) Calm down calm down
