Fabia 1.4 TDi Whistle at high speed

Featured Replies

Hi...

I noticed today that, at high speeds, my car is making a high pitched whistle sound. It starts at around 120km/h, but you can barely hear it, then it progressively gets louder untill at 160km/h it gets really loud and annoying. Soon after 160km/h it starts to disappear. This whistling noise is only there when i press the gas pedal more than, lets say 2/3. The more I press the gas pedal, the louder the sound is. If I relase the gas pedal, the sound disappears. At low speeds everything is normal and I noticed no power loss.

Any ideas what could it be?

offtopic:

Btw my Fabia has 15k kilometers and I am waiting already for the second wheel bearing to be replaced :thumbdwn: At first, the right rear bearing was gone, and now the front left is scratching...doh!

Might just be wind noise. Check to see if there are any bits of trim loose around the windows and door mirrors.

Im sure it's not wind noise cause it's related to the throttle. I red a lot of threads about faulty turbos, but the symptoms are different (whistling in all gears at around 2k rpm, when turbo kicks in). Mine is whistling only at above 120km/h and if the throttle is pressed. More it is pressed, the louder the whistle is. If i depress it and immediately press it again, the whistle disappears and then suddenly comes back. So its definitely throttle related.

Probably a silly question... But does the transmission feel fine or make any sounds?

what are km's in english?

what are km's in english?

5 Miles = 8 km

thus 1km = 5/8 of a mile and 160km/hr = 100mph!

I noticed that the squeaking is not present only at high speed but also at lower speed...but it seems like it is only audible when the engine gets warm...

It is like an intermittent squeaking when the throttle is pressed (like 5 - 10 squeaks/second). If the throttle is depressed, it can't be heard...

Anyone got an answer to this ?! O_o

Engine / gearbox mount; or something belt-driven, like the alternator or A/C compressor?

Just a guess...

I was suspecting the alternator belt too....but the strange thing is I can't hear it when the car is idling...neither if i apply some throttle...

I can only hear this at about more than 60 km/h

Check all the vacuum hoses for tightness and integrity (not sure where they are on a 1.4 but there will be some around the turbo.). My vRS makes a distinct "sucking through your teeth" noise as the turbo takes in extra gulps of air when I accelerate; I guess that's just normal.
