Accident Repair

Featured Replies

Now, this saga has been going on for some time and now again I need some advice.

Synopsis: Before xmas someone ran into my drivers side resulting in amongst other things the rear door was replaced and the rear wing cut and repaired with a new piece.

After finally getting all the little bits and pieces sorted out to my satisfaction there is just one thing im not sure about.

The rear wheel arch doesnt seem to be on quite right.

It didnt seem to stick out quite enough and so there was a gap at the back of the rear door between it and the wheel arch.

The repair place have tried to straighten it a bit by puling it out I think. Also the door has been adjusted so it closes further making the gap appear less.

Im not sure whether i should insist that the panel is cut off again and replaced to make it straight or not.

It seems that what they have done is to hide the not-quite-straight repair job rather than fix it.

Im loath to get lumbered with a crappy courtesy car again for ages as im sick to death if taking my car back to them to have things adjusted to my satisfaction.

I think the wheel arch is possibly about 5mm or so too far in, and im worried that this increases the risk of tyres rubbing on the arch.

Should I insist that they totally redo the panel?

Do I have the Right to do this?

What if they say no?

Any Ideas Guys?

If they have not repaired it correctly then they have not done as they should have. You've given them a chance to fix it and they still haven't done it. What makes you think they'll do it any better 3rd time round? If it's an insurance job phone the insurance company as most guarentee the standard of the work for 5-10 years.

I've recently had my car fixed up after my 'gatepost mod' and used a local repairer. He fixed it properly, and did a brilliant job for the money, exactly what I'd asked for. He did tell me off the record about the standard of work that comes out of main dealers and some of the bigger name accident repair chains. He guesses that main dealers get away with it as there exactly that and that the chains don't give a monkeys about their reputation. The place also felt right in a way that I knew they weren't going to muck about. If he hadn't fixed my car however I would have stong words in a polite way, a shouting match goes nowhere. If the worst comes to the worst the small claims court is always and option.

:smash: Well jono if i was you id be taking it straight back to the garage and be getting it sorted out,If the jobs not done to your liking then tell them what your not happy about, make sure its had a new pannel jono ,they mite of just repaired the old one,If they just fob you off ring your insurance and tell them what your problem is with your vechicle and they will send out an insurance bloke to check it out,if he s not happy with the work he ll ring your garage and get it sorted for you, thats what you pay insurance for jono let them do all the hard work for you,all body work now covers a five year cover against the repair  am a body lad my self and i know all about this kind of stuff so any questions just ask  good luck with what ever you to choose to do about the sittuation and dont take no for an answer from your garage ,you have the wright to challange them over what your not happy with

I'm having the white gatepost speed stripe removed from the Fabia tomorrow so I shall see how well it is done.
