Highest bhp output Mk1 Octavia

Featured Replies

Well, there are quite a few people on this site pushing 250 plus bhp I was hoping for a run down of what each person did to get there,

but no I get the thread high jacked by a discussion of going to a RR session.

Your question of who has got the most powerful Octavia on Briskoda has Been answered. The only way you can find out for sure is on a rolling road day or maybe a track. I personally prefer the track option as BHP means nothing if you haven't got a balanced car to go with the power.

Have you tried a high RPM launch yet.

Only once so far have I felt the need and that was actually quite recently; off the lights against a sports bike, felt really good and gained me quite an advantage. I was smiling for the rest of the day.

Pardon my ignorance on such matters, but how the hell do you get those sort of bhp figures from a VAG 1.8T Unit?

I appreciate that big turbo, upgraded injectors and upgraded everything else can get you to around the 350-400bhp mark, but 600bhp

It's mainly down to how big a turbo you go for and how much lag you're willing to put up with. However it's not quite that simple as there are ways to combat the lag such as careful choice of turbo and housing, equal length manifold, bored out cylinders, water injection, twin scroll turbo or even a small progressive shot of nitrous.

Are you running a twin scroll turbo and manifold.

Thanks for that.... much respect to you guy's, a tad more involved than a simple remap then  More of a science than motor engineering!

Got me thinking..... you could probably pick up a decent example Mk 1 Octy VRS for around the

Would probably cost a fair bit more than 5k to get those sort of power figures i'd guess and with that sort of power then traction would be an issue with the vrs so a 4x4 would be a better base vehicle i'd think as both stuart and eddy have

I think you could safely double that figure of 5k

If i were to do it i think it would need to be in 4x4 as my rs doesnt like its power now never mind 450 bhp

Spooky i just said virtually the same thing

well like they say great minds think alike lol

I think with the mods i have done so far(plus the fmic i have coming) my car should be around 240bhp when i get it remapped.I will probably be happy with 225-230bhp with less boost,as not to put to much strain on the turbo.

I have looked at bt for myself and very tempted, but will probably wait till next year after i have done a few more things i.e. Brakes, suspension.

I started off just by getting an air filter and told myself 'that's all i am doing to it'.

Ditto - it's the torque rather than bhp. Putting my meagre 251 lbf down is bad enough in the dry..................on a greasy road :eek::eek:

its not about power or torque... its about setup and weight.

how much power somethign has is irrelevant if you cant use it. the question should have been which car is fastest around a track....

I saw JBS' octy go down the strip once. I think even my car would have beaten it. All I could really tell/see was it popping and banging, not really going anywhere - couldn't seem to get boost or traction and looked as if it was running badly. Could have been just a one-off and it may have done a better run later on. I was expecting to see it go really well but instead it was whupped by an average looking golf GTI.

agree with you on that,a mate of mine has an eg6 civic which is powered by an integra type r engine with minimal mods and its completely stripped of anything not of use and it regularly beats higher powered cars even 4wd ones simply because of his technique and the cars weight and its suspension setup which is set for drag racing only,if he tried to take it round a track against the same cars then it would be useless:rofl:

badger bill was doing poor times at inters last year simply cos he couldn't get the power down and i suspect jbs had the same problem cos with over 500bhp in front wheel drive octy which isn't exactly a light car there is always going to be a problem putting the power down but i think there octy is only a test mule for there engine upgrades and isn't built for strip or track racing:)

This is what I was trying to get at in my post above. 4x4 cars aside it's very difficult to put that power down, harder still is flooring it through a bend to take full advantage of the front wheel drive out of a bend. The only way I could get the grip I wanted is to back off the power or restrict my right foot. I can hear you all saying, why not get a 4x4/Haldex car. They are great in a straight line but show them a bend at full throttle and you will have all sorts of issues to deal with, great fun but not my idea of a track car. I feel I now have a balanced car for the track, much more power and it will upset that balance. Power is nothing without control.

No, JBS didn't offer them at the time I went for a big turbo. However they are doing 2 at the moment, may even be finished now.

Saw the JBS car on the 1/4 mile on Sat. was really looking forward to it. 16 secs!! All mouth and no trousers, had the power, but it couldn't get it down.

As others have said you need to double it and then it still won't include for chassis upgrades. A standard car +

I've just had a word with them and apparently they tried putting it 5th but it still span the wheels.

They should have the Elise at GTI Festival, that might have a better chance with RWD but it's still gonna be handful.

Turbo, Manifold, Injectors, Fuel Pump, Performance Exhaust, Fromt Mounted Intercooler, New Clutch, Custom remap, bigger Insurance premium etc, I think 5K might be a bit tight , also I wouldnt run over 330 on std internals

I'd agree with all of that. :)

I'm running a Garrett GT3071R and Stuart is running an IHI (not sure which variant). There's threads detailing my spec elsewhere and I believe the same can be said for Stuart.

EDIT: Looks like Stuart has covered his, most of the details on mine are here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/octavia/big-turbo-setup-my-4x4/53552/

Cool this is the kind of stuff I'm after, wanted to get it all in one thread, as with a site this big searching for stuff is getting very long winded.

After this weekend's GTI Inters sprint experience (3 quarter mile runs) I agree completely here. According to Jabbas rollers, my fwd octy is pulling 370 ftlb of torque and 330 bhp, but my 0-60 time was worse than 2 years ago at Traxs, when running about 270bhp. I've got a bit of a dodgey gearchange at present which does not make for quick shifts but nevertheless front wheels can't go anywhere. I'm sure that playing around with suspension and removing weight from the back of the car would help. However at a recent Trackday, by the end of the day there I was being passed by a single Exige and Caterham with these guys only making up substantial ground on the tightest of turns. Not saying that I'm a particularly experienced track driver but the rest of the runners were having to yield to the yellow peril with the aid of lat braking, early power out of corners (with the aid of an LSD) and quick straight line acceleration from the torquey engine.

As for what you will need to spend. Figures banded around of up to

It's a GT3071R on a low(ish) boost map, plenty left in it yet.
