Which quiet PSU to buy??

Featured Replies

Looking to buy a new PSU as mine is annoyingly LOUD!!! I am currently running a Core 2 Duo E6300, 3GB DDR2, a Geforce 7950GT and the usual Sata/IDE drives. I'm looking for a reasonably priced PSU which is powerful enough and is very quiet when running.

Help appreciated as the PC keeps me awake some nights when I leave it on!!!

Any PSU with a 120mm fan will be quieter.

Other than that the only way you will get a quiet PC is through liquid cooling. I have built my own PC for the past 7 years and in the end i opted for liquid cooling as this negates putting extra fans into the computer to keep things cool.

Id recommend any PSU that is 700w or above as this will give you room to upgrade hardware in future. and make sure it supports SLI incase you decide to upgrade your graphics. If you want to know which PSU will support your Graphics card and are NVIDIA Certified have a look at this link

What are you looking to spend on it?

And I'd also recommend the site above - quality kit, have stuff of theirs still running today that I bought 5yrs ago, faultlessly - some of it 24/7. In my mind, that's really good going for PC fan/PSU stuff...

You might able to get some idea via this link:

I bought a 330w QTechnology PSU about 4 years ago, it is dead quiet and I am still using it for my C2D PC.

Not to be confused with a lovely gold Qtech psu.

Saying that though I used a Qtechnology psu a few years ago and that died after about 2 years, but at least it didn't blow up and take the rest of the system with it . :D

Youll find most *decent* psus are quiet these days... im running a 600w enermax liberty at the moment, has 2 12v rails too which is nice and silent

enermax, thermaltake, Tagan, Seasonic, Silverstone etc etc all good brands :)

I am with Neo on this one, i am using an enermax infinity 720 with a 8800 gtx etc and it is probably the quietest component in the system, okay it was not what you call "cheap" but i do believe you get what you pay for with certain things!

I thought about those when i saw this thread

I got an FSP which is virtually silent it was about

Yep, essential to have a good quality and reliable PSU

Like decent hi-fi, the system's only as good as the weakest chain :)
