Brembo GT brakes, overhauled and better pics.

Featured Replies

Spent a few hours this evening after work cleaning up my GT brakes (bought 2nd hand from work).

Skimmed the discs to clean up the surface with an on car brake lathe then fitted some EBC pads.

Performance is unbelieveable on a small car like the Fabia they really bite, keep over braking into roundabouts..lol.

Ive got some TT vented rear discs and calipers but tbh I dont think it needs em.

Very nice mate. Shame they won't fit on 16" rims! ;)

now those are lovely jubilee !

Ross, fit the TT rears, then play with the bias. Go on, do it! It will make it more balanced and then the stopping power will be even better. I'd go for the reds rather than the greens you have on. 1. Better resistance to fade than the greens, especially as the Fab is quite hefty. 2. Red pads would go with the callipers better than the green :D

i've heard that if you saw how the green pads were made you'd never fit them to your car ! didnt get any details though.

apparently the reds are best for day to day and occasional track use.

black for fast raod / motorway and track

yellow for track only.

Disagree on blacks and yellows.

Yellows crumbled and didn't stop you that well, their friction co-efficient is lower than the reds (they're an endurance pad), blacks aren't as good, IMHO, as the DS3000/ Pagids etc.

Tavia

where did you go for the Brembos and how much did you pay,if you mind me asking?

Dont ask that, it'll only depress you :o

He works for Amd you see ;)

sorry,i asked the wrong bloke

Ross...

Any chamfer left on the drilled holes after skimming them?

I find these drilled after casting disks will propogate cracks as soon as you start to use them hard... and ridge up horribly... not good for pad wear etc Got yours blue yet? :D

I dont really use them that hard....yet :)

I intend to replace the drilled discs in the future with plain discs when the current set have had it.

I've been impressed so far with the Greenstuffs, we had them on the shelf so I nabbed them, will look into different pads as and when I need em.

Whatever they are much better than std ;)

Dazz for the Brembos we cant beat Bill's prices (Badger5) he does the same kit with plain discs for sub

I think all cars should come with Brembo's. :)

Just refitted ickle Ibiza with its Brembo's again... glad to be rid of the Wilwoods which are a pile of poo.... Nasty things.

Warp, pull up unevenly, and have never matched the Brembo's for stopping power and pedal feel. Glad to be rid.

Trouble is, most other cars now will feel like they have no brakes in comparison..

That on car disk lathe thing tho... Wots your going rate for reskimming? Calipers off or can you do it with them fitted? Prolly be interested to keep mine going after some track days...

cheers

Bill

Ross, you rememer we were talking about my Brembos. Well they look remarkably like yours !! I'll have to let you have a look so I can get 'em on the Octy !

Andy, most of the Brembo calipers are the same, if not very similar.

Bill, I'll check the going rate, all you have to do with the brake lathe is remove the wheel, caliper and carrier on the FWD platform (as the caliper is on the front edge of the disc) and skim away, takes a fair bit of setting up mind you so labour is quite intensive.

Cheers Ross.
