Vectra VXR

Featured Replies

If you drive any car long enough you get to know all it's strenghts and weakness's and the Vectra VXR like any car has it's share of both. On the whole though the good features far outweigh any negative ones and if that person is happy driving whatever car then good luck to them.

I even like the fiat 500 but it's too bloody small for me!

As for the Audi A4, perhaps Audi should tell it's customers that these cars are only designed to do 50,000 before they fall apart.

I'm looking at changing the car towards the end of the year, and ad I miss the thrill of my vRS, I am loking at going back to a sporty petrol.

As Skoda dont do the type of car I require (needs to also pull a caravan) I have certainly taken to the Vectra VXR. I big car with a huge powerful engine, and perfrect for shed dragging as well. I saw one recenly pulling a new Adria.

I was just wondering what peoples thoughts were on this insane petrol powered lump from Vauxhall. 2nd hand prices are quite agressive, and you sure get a lot of car for yer money.

Cheers

Expect 7mpg when your having fun with it!

LOL..... really, mine's currently on 155K and is in better condition than every vectra I've seen of the same age/mileage.

In fact all my previous A4s (I've had 4, 2xB5, a B6 and a B7) have managed to last well into the 100K miles league.

Any how many mods to keep it together ?

:)

Mods to keep it together ? eh ?

Judging by your current car of choice I cannot possibly see how you can put down the Vectra VXR in the way you do.

LOL, my current car of choice is born out of having to sell everything due to my divorce. If you have been around longer than a week or so you would have seen many a discussion of my purchase from a fellow briskodian.

My previous cars of choice were an 03 plate Octavia vRS Estate (transport for the dogs)and a 56 plate A4 2.0TFSI sline saloon (refined fun for me).

I'm affraid I'd class Audi in a totally different league to vauxhall, as would many......

Armchair pundits eh.., keep an open mind, try new cars , really evaluate them then give opinions, don't just watch Top Gear..

Blimey, didn't know the seats in the Vectra SRI and VXR I drove are called armchairs..... or that you can watch topgear whilst driving them.

Mind you considering they can't go round corners well... I suppose you could class them as armchairs.

Funny that, 26,000 other people can manage to corner in them in the UK, perhaps it's just the closed minded minorities that can't....

Or maybe the other 59_974_000 of us have greater powers of discernment?

"Uphill hairpin turns are the acid test of a powerful front-wheel drive car and the Vectra VXR Estate just demolishes them. Push really hard and youll feel the electronic stability control quelling the understeer as you push hard into the corner. Back off the throttle in mid-bend and its possible to feel the cars tail swing slightly, the ESP again keeping things neat and tidy. As the bend opens and the throttle is pressed to the floor, the traction control system unobtrusively lets you have as much power as the front tyres can handle."

Or, in other words, it's rubbish, but the electronics do a good job of fooling you that it's not.

9th paragraph down " Uphill hairpin turns are the acid test of a powerful front-wheel drive car and the Vectra VXR Estate just demolishes them"

Somehow goes against your opinions, but your entitled to your opinions.

I tend to sway towards a real reviewers opinion rather than someone holding an unjust bitter grudge....

that's not how it reads at all

A. It's not unjust, B. It's not bitter. C. If you need ESP to step in all the time the chassis/suspension setup is crap.

LOL, true, should have condition'd the statement, with going round a corner faster than walking pace...

A lot of the time I'd bet on the driver. Don't forget that modern cars are set up, by design, to be understeery due to the dearth of driver talent.

Oh and even though I'm a duff driver I reckon I could punt the Vectra down a road quicker than you could do it in your A4, even though it aledgedly handles like a hippo on rollerskates.

Anyone want to lend me one?

Which age A4 ? My current one is a B5.... mind you, non of my A4's have ever handled like a hippo on wheels.

Oh you need to compare the handling of same era car..... can't really compare a 96 A4 to a 2007/08 Vectra.

And I think some people are missing the point of my argument. On the same road, in the same conditions at the same speed the 06 plate vectra SRI would understeer so much more worse than either my Octy or Audi. And for a "performance" orientated car the VXR was no better than the SRI.

Or the driver........... ;)

Chris

Either way, it's the electronics saving you from yourself, rather than an indication of either driver or chassis talent.

Since my original complaint was over lack of chassis talent, it's rather ironic that it's the VXR owner who's decided to prove the point.

Ahem, boxed shaped dull A4's, how dreary can driving get.
