Getting Itchy Feet (Again)

Featured Replies

I will have had my Octy vRS 1 year in August but already I am finding myself playing virtual Autotrader more and more.

It's not that there is anything wrong with the Octy, quite the contrary in fact. She is getting her 40K service tomorrow and is still looking as fresh as when I bought her.

It's just something within me that gets bored easily with cars (hence why I have had 17 of them in 18 years of driving!).

The other problem with being a petrolhead is that I want to own and drive loads of different cars - some of the options I have been searching for recently include:

Mercedes CLK Coupe

VW Golf GTI Mk2

VW Type25 Van(!)

Mitsubishi Shogun (SWB this time, already had a LWB)

Clio 172/182

Civic Type R

Fabia vRS

MX5 & old school Vespa for commuting

I must have lost thousands over the years with buying and selling in quick succession but it's like a drug - I love buying cars!

Hopefully this will pass over but wondered if any of you lot experienced the same symptoms?

Yes I'm never happy with what I've got and the grass is always greener. I now really appreciate the Mazda6 after a month of driving a Vectra.

A two seat sports car is next on my list though. Or will it be a land Rover defender, or a rat-rod type pick up, or a sit up and beg sports bike? Decisions decisions....

My wife goes mad with me.

I came within a gnats knacker of getting rid of the Fabia last Tuesday, but fortunately my mate rang me just in time and I went to the pub instead.

Dont know what you mean ;)

Get it sold Graham:D

you think you're bad i have had 26 in 11 years with no write off's, its that bad i have never MOT'd a car, never had one long enough. Its the same problem itchy feet get board waaaay too easily. Had my octy vRS 1 year now and its the longest i have ever owned a car, and in no rush to get rid even after test driving most of the new hot hatch's recentley.

This should cure the boredom, On Pistonheads at the moment

Not sure about the legalities of the front number plate though, not exactly forward facing !!

Stealth : STEALTH GT

I know how you feel, I've had the Passat 3 months - thats my average, but for once I'm not feeling like changing it any time soon.

This is my 15th car, I've only been driving 5 years!!!

WTF is stealth about that!??

I've always been one to change cars regularly. I find I buy cars and want something else straight away. I've had my octavia a year now and it's the first time I have not wanted to change! I don't look in auto trader or have random visits to car dealers like I used to... don't know why, there's just nothing else I would rather have for similar money :)

Well had the Octy's 40K service today.

The guy doing it checked it on VAG-Com - no faults whatsoever and he said it is absolutely spotless underneath as well as on top.

Think I might be keeping it for a wee while yet - i'd be daft not to.

S'pose I could always save for a remap!

Im the same , I love a change , and usually just for changes sake! Ive had the Fabia just over 2 years now (more due to the fact that I'm skint , than anything else) and it looks like it will beat my record of 2.5 years ownership , currently held by my old 280 'Brooklands' Capri. (19 cars in 20 years so far) However in 2009 , Autotrader will be getting some serious study...... will it be a Fab vRS , an Octy vRS , a Golf V GTi , a Polo 1.8T Gti , an aircooled VW , an old Porsche? who knows , I certainly don't! lol!

Today is the anniversary for owning the Civic. 3 months in total.

Already beaten the time of the Leon, which was 1 month.

I've got 6 months, which was the longest for me, with the Fabia to beat.

I'm sure I can do it.

Snoopie, you need to get a car, never mind a life :)

Would be great if you could expand. I have a car?

I think he means get a life, never mind the car. ;)

 :P

the fabia vrs is the only car i have ever owned more than once,i am on my third now,and my 31st in 10 years, saying theat i own 4 at the minute and swmbo's new swift arrives wednesday:D

The age old saying "the grass is always greener".

Over the weekend & yesterday I had a Kia Ceed 1.6D LS for 36hrs. I have to say that I was highly impressed its poke felt similar to that of a Golf GT TDI115. Seats are really comfy and took the milage with ease.

The issues I felt were it needed a 6th cog as the overall average (brim to brim method) I achieved was 54mpg and it had 3500 on the odo.

When I pushed on on twisty B roads it only felt a little top heavy when I pushed to 80 to test it and it still didnt lose traction.

I suffer from the same problem, I nearly bought an M3 on a 52 plate from the local BMW dealer last week, it's ONLY the threat of divorce that stopped me, and after so many cars or bikes in so many years ..... the threat was real this time .......... Yikes.

Stick a remap on it. It will feel like a totally different car will cost a lot less and should keep the itch away for a bit.

The chap is doing 40k a year 110 miles 7 days a week, so I'd highly assume that 95% of the time he is on the Motorway. In which case its not the difference in power thats the issue - maybe its just the thought he'd want a change of cabin.

Lets assume that he averages 40-45mph over the 40k so that means he speands up to 3 hrs a day sitting in his car.

Sorry Welshy, I did not buy the car new 1 year ago

It was on 29,300 when I bought her and I have only added 7K in the last year.

Think my post may have been misleading somewhat ;)
