exhaust system light on - fault??

Featured Replies

Hi there, can anyone please give me some advise: my "electronic engine management" light is on. Took it to the local dealership, popped onto the computer and the result was fault with the exhaust system...they reset the light and it has now come back on again....

what causes this fault? what does it take to repair?

My car is a Fabia 1400, hatchback, 2002

many thanks

Moved to the correct forum.

Try the search you may well find it linked to the EGR or Lambda/02 Sensor.

You need a bit more of a diagnostic description really.

When this happened to my Fabia Vrs it was the EGR valve that had failed.

Have you noticed the car using more fuel?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this and my Fabia (2004, 1.4 16V) but it hasnt been a happy relationship with the car so far. Within two weeks my exhaust engine warning lightcame on and the car went in to safe mode. I got towed all the way back home as one of the cylinders wasnt firing. Took it to the garage asap and they couldnt find anything wrong with it. It has been fine until last week when the same light came on. It seems to be running fine no 'safe mode' or whatever its called. I took it to the garage who plugged a diagnostic kit in and said it was the O2 sensor in the exhaust. They said not to worry unless I notice any problems performance wise. They removed the fault and the light but it has come straight back on again. It seems like quite a few people are having similar problems. Just wondered if anyone had got to the bottom of the problem and if it was costly because I dont know if it is worth it if the car is fine and its just a sensor fault. The car does seem to use some oil and was owned by a old chap so may be it didnt get enough of a run out?

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks

Hellen

I've had a 2003MY 1.4 16V VAG engine suffer a pre-cat probe when it was about 6 or 7 years old (50+K miles), You would be better off letting a VAG dealer or a VAG indie specialist look at this as there are two exhaust probes on that exhaust. The first one is a control probe and the second one is a monitor probe, I'm sure that if the control one fails then the cat will still survive for some time, but I'd dismiss the "don't worry about it", this should get sorted out sooner than later. I thought that there was "talk" about a s/w issue causing some of these problems - but in my case the first probe had failed as it had a heater failure problem after it had heated up. Maybe unplug the sensor and have a look at the connectors - but to do that you will need your garage to tell you which probe is logging faults - get the codes from them and take it from there, unless you think that they should be repairing any problems FOC!
