Plastic document case - yuk

Featured Replies

When I bought my L & K Octy in 2001, I was appalled by only one thing: the beastly plastic docs case.

Never mind, I thought, they're trying to save money and the car was only

I must admit I don't lie awake worrying about it but then there are a couple of things that I think were missed such as a hydraulic bonnet lifter.

If they did everything the same then there would nothing to tell between the Audi and VW.

Spot on VRStu as usual!

New polos have lost the bonnet lifters....

a sign of things to come :( even VW are cutting back!

Yep, it is a shame. I understand the need to brand separation within the brand group, but things like damped grab handles, bonnet lifters, leather ring bound owners pack etc all go to make the car feel much classier.

Luckily the Passat has em all!! :P

What dissapoints me more than the quality of the case is that there is no where to put it :( , I thought that the cubby hole under the passenger seat would have been ideal but no, it's too small :( :(

Even gets a fancy swivel mechanism for the ring binder!

Wow, I bet you feel special Tom ;):P

A plastic wallet is a small price to pay IMO.

It spends most of it's life hidden under junk in the glovebox so one ever sees it.

Saying that even the mighty Vectra has a nice document case :P

I can't help thinking that people are missing the point here a little bit.

Skoda are able to produce value for money cars (relative to equivalent VW) because they save money in areas where it really doesn't matter, e.g. damped grab handles, bonnet lifters, leather ring bound owners pack.

At the end of the day if having those things make your car feel classier, and if that's what you want from your car, then buy the VW (or even the Audi) and not the Skoda.

For me, none of the above are particularly important; they're all 'nice to haves' and the fact that I am getting a car that is essentially a Golf GTi with more room (which is hugely important to me) for several thousand less is far more important.

As for 'where to stick it' [the document wallet]

I found the area around the 6 CD player in the boot a perfect fit - you can also stick the 'oil kit' you get from the dealer in there too...oh and some spare bulbs...and a 1st aid kit....

I don't really care that it's plastic (other than from an environmental view)...But then if it was made from leather no doubt some greeny/veggie would have a problem...perhaps they should be made from wool, or cotton ???

Personally I couldn't give a poo what my documents are in, as it happens my 2003 vRS has a leather handbook case but it could be because it's a special edition. What's all this about damped grab handles? Surely a nice positive feel to the grab handle is better than a spongy one?

Without meaning to offend the VW/Audi owners among us, I would take a Skoda over the equivalent VW any day. I can't help feeling smug as I drive by Golf GTi owners thinking that my car is bigger, quicker (unless it’s an anni edition), the dash is nicer to look at IMO and I didn't have to bend over and expose myself to the salesman when paying for it! If skoda have the business sense to achieve a better car (in my opinion), which costs less than the competition, by simplifying/removing unnecessary parts then good for them. For a lot of people they will never compete directly with the likes of VW or Audi because of badge snobbery, but for me, that just adds to the appeal of owning one.

I wedge mine in there to.

I dont mind the plastic wallet either. Being made of plastic the water wipes off easy from when you open your boot and the water drips inside. LOL

One made of a material would soak up this water, getting the documents wet inside.:thumbdwn:

I chucked mine away first day - then all the booklets do go in the passenger seat compartment [where I don't put anything else].

So they are not in a single wallet. So what?

Damped grab handles are only damped when you let go of them, so they don't bang against the headlining.

I agree with you Phil - if I wanted something with a 1.8T lump, it would be the Octavia. I would however retrofit a bonnet lifter and damped grab handles!!!! Its nice to hear the limited edition has a nice leather wallet. I thought the older ones had leather packs - I know my Felicia did.

If the wallet the documents come in, grab handles or bonnet lifters (and indeed badge) are your primary reason for choosing a car, then you need to get your priorities sorted.

What a very,very sad thread.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Seriously - the Felicia leather one was nice - may be one of them on ebay. Little enamel Skoda badge on it too if my memory serves me correctly!

Yes, we are sad. But Mr G, may I also point out you have made 2,818 posts on a Skoda based internet forum... ;) :P

It's not really sad. Look at it this way - if this is all we could find to grumble about, she ain't a bad motor!
