04 Octavia RS radiator mounts

Featured Replies

Can anyone advise me if the front bumper and or headlights need to be removed in order to replace the radiator mounts?

This is on my list as well i'll second this question

For the mounts? Yeah I think so. They're a bugger to get at apparantly. They did it to mcgyver's car back when he had a Mk1. I'd say you've already had a chat about it to him at this stage...

I had mine changed under warranty :)

I had mine changed under warranty to, but there were no signs of bumper removal on collection.

From what the dealer tells me, it's not a yes or no answer. They have done some without the need to remove the bumper, while others need the bumper off.

just had mine done under warrenty when it went in for it's first mot.

whats the crack is this a common problem? what does it cause???

Had to change mine earlier this year its a bumper removal and i had to remove the lights and loosen the front panel so that i could move the rad enough to change the mounts i did have to do all 4 though its definatley more differcult if you have air-con if you dont then you might not have to remove the front panel! Its defo a git of a job!

The mounts themselves are cheap (54p I paid iirc) but add 2.5hrs labour and it starts to get expensive. Had mine done under warranty and they went again 6 months later:(

Are ya sure your not getting his mixted up with mine :) . I got the garage to do them.

@ Pdhealy....I don't envy ya getting those sorted. They WERE nice knuckles you had  :P

I've just done mine this morning. I've got big hands so didn't even attempt it with the bumper on, I also couldn't be bothered clambering under the car. Bumper is easy as pie to remove on the Octavia. The headlights need to come out really so that you can loosen the top mounts off but you don't really need to, I just wanted to make it as easy as possible. Passenger side is easy enough but I agree that the drivers side is a PITA because of bits of the A/C system being in the way. It's nice to close the door without the radiator rattling :D

I changed mine and they went again quite quickly. With this set, I've added a little dab of black Sikaflex to limit movement. Touch wood, they've been fine since. I think the mounts are designed to allow the radiator to expand and contract with temperature, so I made a point of not going over the top with the Sikaflex.... like I say, they have lasted longer than any standard mounts so far and they still seem perfect :)

How do you actually change these?

Can it be done without draining the system?

Any pics.

I have mine booked in to be done with Indi-Tech Milton Keynes as I can't be asked to do this myself,
