Who lied?

I think you are missing the point a little mate.

Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: CAN-Bus Information

There are two systems used by VAG to communicate with the car - K Line and CANBUS.

Yours requires CANBUS, you bought a K Line Cable.

:confused:Just how did you know he needed a KEY and not a CAN? and more to the point how can i check what I will need on my Octy 1.8T RS (2004)? (VIN probably but what digit?)

As i am still new to this and just want to see how it works, am looking for a 'read-only' solutions. any advise greatly appreciated

Thanks

He doesn't he needs a CAN.

You need a Key.

It's not that I am some sort of genius simply that I know his car has CANBUS communications and yours doesn't.

Ah well I wouldn't have expected anything less from you Stu, I was wondering HOW you got that information.

No Rocket Science or wizardry but how, Stu, tell me how! :P

There is nothing underhand or cunning about it, it just is what it is. All A5 platform cars such as the new Leon, Altea, Golf V, Golf Plus, Octavia II etc use CAN.
