Octane Boosters

Featured Replies

Anyone used any of the Octane Booster additives?

If so what did you think and was it worth?

The best I've tried was NF (nitrous formula) octane booster, Aussie stuff AFAIK, it was on my scoob though, not tried it on the Skud yet... and it did make a difference, Millers also has a good rep... its alot of hassle though using them on every fill, i run the Skud on 95 ron and when jabba do the OBD map it 'll be mapped on 95 too. SUL is very hard to get here...

tried one on the 19 once and didnt really notice any difference, then again i wasnt really expecting any, just for a laugh really.

mate of mine works for a company called Triple P, they import all sorts of tuning parts for the likes of Demon Tweeks etc etc and they apparently do some really **** hot additives for octane boosting etc.

ps: i didnt think it was worth it.. maybe on cars running hi boost etc its a good safety measure...

millers seems ok with optimax... have not had good experiences with other brands.

Ran NF all the time in the Scoob, the exhaust going brown takes a bit of getting used to, also NF comes in one shot bottles, saves measuring it.

Does NF really make a difference then, or is it all in the imagination?! If it is good, where do you get it?

Get some Blue Stuff.

The only time you need octane boosters is if you can't fill up with petrol complying with BS EN 228:2000 (95 octane, "standard" unleaded) or BS 7800:2000 (97 octane, "super" unleaded).

If a particular engine uses petrol with too low an octane rating, then it will destroy itself through detonation in pretty short order. Increasing the octane rating above the minimum won't make a hap'orth of difference to performance, though. Well, no, that's not entirely true. Modern ECUs as in the 1.8T can adapt to a limited range of octane ratings; they can use more aggressive fuel/air mixtures and spark timing for high octane fuels where low octane would cause dangerous detonation. These fuel/air and spark settings squeeze more power out of the fuel, but again any increase in octane above what the ECU is programmed for has no effect whatsoever.
