Footwell Lights or LEDS !!! HELP

Featured Replies

Evening Folks

I’ve been having a quick search to see if anyone else has rigged up some footwell lights for the FABIA. I’ve only seen one and that looked damn funky (one with green led’s) and I was wondering just how difficult a process this is, I would like them to go on and off with the lights. I must also add that I am a complete numpty but can follow instructions…..

If anyone can post there funky interiors that I can look at that would be great and also brief instructions of what I need to do……..Thanks.... J

Rich (Fabia 12v) did a great job on his. See http://www.briskoda.net/forums/fabia/students-take-note-how-i-spiced-up-my-standard-1-2-12v-fabia-see-photos/28240 and post #52 in particular.

Managed to view Richies work and it does look pretty damn fine but what will I need to get something similar in mine. Any help would be great. I've seen options for using teh ciggy socket but I want somethig a bit more "plumbed in".

Cheers:P

Yeah, I thought it was a great job. Not sure I've got the time, patience and ability though!

Any updated links of Richie's work?

I've got 12v LED strips in the footwells in my Fabia.

Wired them directly to the overhead courtesy lights, so they come on when you open the door.

I'll try and snap some pics later on. I've also fitted them to the underside of the door panel, so I've got puddle lights too.

I should have some pics of them in my Golf, same sort of effect as in my Fabia

Some pics would be excellent...so im fully armed with info for when i get on to it.

Wow....underside door panel are also LEDs? the ones that come as a tube?

Here you go, some quick snaps I just ran outside to take using my mobile phone.

Sorry it's quite hard to capture the colour and brightness.

The colour is more like this, but they are much brighter than what's captured in this pic.

And one of the boot - just 2 led strips, one on each side. Makes the boot super bright, and real easy to find things!!

TYVM!

Presumably the under door seal ones are wired through the cables in the door hinge and up the A pillar?

And the boot ones are tapped into the OEM boot light wiring?

Ill buy some off you if you have some in red...?

Not tubes, but LED 12v strips. They are flexible and waterproof and only a few mm thick.

Door sill ones just directly connected to the red light that's in the bottom corner of the doorcard (ie the factory puddle light/saftey light). takes all of 2mins to connect them up!!

The boot ones are just connected to the OEM boot light, yes.

Sorry buddy, I don't have red ones, just this bluey/white colour

Did you have to take the door cards off to access the wiring to the OEM door light? Im seeing a use for the spare 3 way crimps I have left from upgrading the rear speakers....

No that's far too much hard work my friend! No need to take the door card off.

The LEDs are self adhesive - just stick them to the bottom of the door card, and slide the wire in behind the door card. Then pop the doorcard's plastic lens out.

Join the wiring from the LED to the factory light bulb wiring. use the crimps if you want.

2mins work max.

Thank you so much for that! Never would've figured something so impressive is so simple to do!

Oh and they're thin enough not to get knocked around when closing the door?

This was my attempt, I ran a cable from the interior light to the left footwell then through to the right. I also had the superskoda led door lights and upgraded all interior bulbs to LEDs.

Pictures below. Mine were alot brighter than any others I could find when searching briskoda at the time.

Love the boot LEDs above, will have to steal the idea as I have none whatsoever in my car as standard - using a torch is too old skool

If your gonna start giving driving instruction the fitment of lights in the driver footwell is a great idea, in supervising the novice driver.

I did this years ago when I was a driving instructor, and was visually beneficial, in the dark, and was not a distraction for the driver.

Otherwise can't see the point to it, apart from, if you keep forgetting where the foot-pedals are. LOLemoticon-0148-yes.gif

No they only light up when you open the doors, it makes a suprising difference too

Depends how you wire them up. You could easily add a separate switch so they work independently.

If you decided to have them on all the time, then it would be much better if they were a very dimly lit red. Much less distracting on the eyes

Need shades on for those....what brand lights did you use for the footwells? Or just rewiring the superskoda ones?

With a bit of fiddling around you can have lights which come on with the sidelight and also lights which come on with the interior light on !

Interior lights on - white light to see if you dropped something !

WhiteFootwell.jpg

Side lights on - blue ambient lighting in foot wells

BlueFootwell.jpg

Finally both - Blue and White

Some ideas for you

^^inspiring!

How many sets of LED strips are there? One set connected to the rooflight and another to the sidelight switch mechanism?

Doesn't it get annoying driving with the interior being blue at night?

Thanks, there is a three LED strip under the dash either side in white connected to the interior light, there are nine LED mounted under each front seat, six facing forward and 3 facing towards the rear which are connected to the side lights circuit.

Actually no, the blue is fairly dim and just provides ambient light in the foot wells.

Cheers

Karl

Do the lights connected to the side lights circuit go off when main beams are on?
