Chris

then he explained he used to have a 4/2 and now had a micro so he was released without charge due to lack of evidence of heterosexuality.

He test drove one last weekend and it made his mind up that he didn't want one. I went along on the test drive and have to say I was totally unimpressed too.

He's decided he's gonna have to modify to get something he'll be happy with so he put a deposit down on an R32 today which will be getting either turbo'd or supercharged. I think it's a good decision as it will keep his interest for a much longer period if the car is constantly changing.

Unimpressed with the RS4... are you sure the car was not sick? It is argueable the best V8 ever in production sublime handling brillient seats and 4 doors so a family car too.

What exactly didnt impress? The acceleration/looks/durability / fuel consumption.

Getting an R32 beyond the pace of an RS4 is a very big job and the already thirsty V6 is going to need liver replacement folowing Supercharger route...

Acceleration and sound were the main let downs. The interior (excluding the lovely seats) also looked a little dated (something echoed in press reviews I read afterwards) considering the price of the car and probably one of the reasons that production has stopped.

At first I did think maybe the car just didn't feel fast but watching the speedo confirmed that it was noticably slower than my car which I really didn't expect. I also wondered if cheap 95ron fuel could have been the problem as I'm sure that's what the dealer will be running it on.

The sound was very dissapointing and the V8 could hardly be heard in the cabin with the 'S' button adding little. I'm sure a miltek would sort that but mods would have been totally out of the question if spending that much on the car.

Also of concern is just how many used ones there are at dealers with 4k miles or less on them. If they're such good cars why aren't people using them and why aren't they keeping them?

Eddy,

I don't know about you (or your mate) but I don't really get the full effect of a car on a test drive - did you drive it or just your mate?

I have driven two RS4's - both were basically just hoofed up a fairly straight road and round a few corners at moderate speeds - once I got the car, I was able to give it more of a true test. The car came with a full tank of fuel, undoubtably 95 supermarket stuff - I used that up as quickly as possible and put some Optimax replacement in (dunno what it is called, V-Max?). Noticeably nippier and even more so when S mode is selected. I've not had much chance to see 0-60 times and 0-100 times as I'm usually having way too much fun to even bother with those things but I'll get round to it eventually ;O)

I don't know anything about your car other than the mightily impressive figures on your info - how do you manage to lay that sort of power through the front wheels only???

I understand what you mean about the lack of sound in the cabin but maybe that's one of the points that the Audi engineers wanted to make... loads of grunt without interfering with your daily life (music, phone etc). If you wang it round to 8000 revs it certainly makes plenty of noise!!! I have been wandering around with the windows down and may well have been through a few tunnels that weren't exactly on my shortest way home ;O)

The S button doesn't really add more noise, it seems to make the exhaust more bassy but it is the effect on the throttle I find more intoxicating - response to prods on the loud pedal are instantaneous and make fast progress over any type of road so easy as to be almost ridiculous - sweeping bends are taken at speeds that would be inconceivable in most other cars (obviously not heavily modifed Octavias).

Your comments would be most appreciated :)

Unfortunately a test drive is usually the only option available and admittedly is not as good as owning a car. However if that's all that's offered when looking to make a

Damn... if I had only used these two eyes of mine to actually read your list of vehicles lol

As you say, "horses for courses" is right and the 414 of the little beggars under my lovely black bonnet make the car live up to and utterly exceed the expectations that curly haired lanky fellah from Top Gear stated whilst attempting to beat a "johnny Depp lookalike" up a small hill.

The worst thing about owning the RS4 is the fact that I work away from home Mon-Fri... the best thing is Fri-Sun ;)
