ARB and insurance??

Featured Replies

Just had a quote from Admiral of

Did you tell them exactly what it does? A lot of these people you speak too, have no idea, and if you tell them, it's to stable the back of the car, as it's clumsy... bla bla...

Black magic skoda fabia VRS, leather interior, revo remap, Green cotton air filter, pd160 air intake, 17" dezent type N alloy wheels, eibach lowering springs, colour coded milotec sports grille, seat leon front splitter

Are you sure its not this lot that's pushing up your premiums?

Insurance companies do know what ARB's are. They see them as performance modifications. So you WILL be stung if your'e young and have other 'Mods' too

You are probably not wrong, just tried again and had to put me on hold, they think it is an roll cage?!?!?! I tried to explain, this time quoted

Phone 'em back and tell them it a suspension mod.

I'm with Admiral, and every time I phone they are extremely helpful, as Snoopie said most of the phone staff will not know what a ARB is, just be patience.

just tried again, shocking, on hold for 10 mins, they didnt have a scooby doo?!?!? hopefully i will get through toy you next time i call!

Had no issues with Direct Line, cost me nothing to declare the ARB.

I described it as a safety enhancement; to improve the handling of the vehicle and reduce body roll. The thing is the people you talk directly too are not technically minded so be patient and just answer all the questions correctly. They're normally talking with a technical dept whilst keeping you on hold whom may raise queries before giving the thumbs up.

Also I do believe if your young, had accidents and have points you will most likely see a premium increase. You have to think how does the insurance company see me as a driver, safe or crazy?

True, i got them down to

LloydsTSB also don't charge anything but ARB must be declared

Direct Line quoted me an extra

I might as well lower it and fit the ARB for that.

I believe DirectLine have bands of modifications in each category so you might find that because you've paid for suspension mods up to

It is odd to say the least, was told by elephant that would not ensure me if i tinted my windows but Admiral will charge about

It's a license to print money. Dunno how they get away with it to be honest.

It's a right pain in the proverbial isn't it?!

I have this sort of trouble pretty much every time, no matter what the insurance company. It seems to me that they have different categories of modification on their computer system. The difficult bit is guiding them to the right bit

Why not try a specialist broker like HIC, Brentacre or Greenlight, had loads of mods on my Golf and HIC and Brentacre knew what they were doing and weren't loading the premium unless there was a big power hike.

Your all mad buying Insurance!

I'll be ringing my insurance (Privalege) in the next few days and seeing how much they want, hopefully it won't be too much agro seeing as they're part of Direct Line....

Hah!

Ahem.....sorry. :o

Agree with Chris - you wouldn't believe the amount of hassle and chasing calls it took to get DL to forward my details of NCB to Tesco Insurance who are all part of the same company

Still, good luck ;)

Agreed, I'm with Brentare. Top guys - John is the guy i've dealt with (i think) and nothing was to much trouble. U maybe able to get it slightly cheaper elsewhere but talking to these guys takes the ballache out of finding a suitable policy.

They also understand about mods and so u don't have to sit on the phone for hours describing it to them.

For the moddest fee they charge they are worth every penny

Sorted.

Spoke to privilege and the guy didn't really know what i was talking about, so put me on hold for what literally 1 second and said he just spoke to his supervisor and they won't cover it. There way no way i was having that so tried to explain again what it was and he said all he can do is check with the underwriters so i told he too....... he came back 2 minuted later and said "yes, it's no problem"?! :D:rofl: No extra cost either, although my excess will go up by

You'd think there was a clue in the name of the product
