Octavia remote central locking fault

Featured Replies

Hello all - I'm new on the site - found you whilst browsing

My much loved 3+ year old Octavia 1.8T is now past its warranty period. When in warranty, faults with the remote central locking on two occassions were fixed by my local Skoda dealer. On each occasion the faults were diagnosed as being caused by corrosion of window motors and wiring by water ingress, these components being thus replaced in both front doors. Specifically, the faults comprised not only inoperation of the drivers door lock from the remote, but also random behavior of the front passenger window.

As my motor is now out of warranty, I am reluctant to part with the cash to repeat a past fix that has only solved the problem for a couple of months.

I wonder if any other Octavia owners have had similar problems and managed to find a permanent (or cheaper) fix?

Regards all

Jaycee.

Seems we have something in common. My 2000 TDi has similar problems. Sometimes rear passenger door wont lock/unlock, and the window goes bizerk. Drivers window appears to be catching on something and getting stuck half way up. Press down and it bangs, and then will go all the way up without any bother. Anyone got any ideas? I too am very reluctant to part with the cash!

Does your rear washer work ok?

It's common for the washer pipe to seperate and leak water into the boot near the control unit.

If the problem has reoccurred after a couple of months you are more than entitled to go back to the dealer and get them to complete the repair. It’s a common problem, so use the argument “design fault”. There a loads of threads on the site asking for help with this problem, water or condensation getting into the wiring in the window motor connector and corroding it.

drivers window motor, theres water in the connection clean out put some grease or vaseline in to repel water.

I had the same type of issue last summer so am guessing its a sort of fault by design, not the windows issue but the rear passensger door lock would only respond intermittently, my car was then 3 months out of dealer warranty and when i took it in had to pay 80quid for them to diagnose no fault, its ironic but its not happened since i took it in but they didn't actually find fault with it... I'm still waiting for hot weather to see if it re-ocurrs. They did wash the car and steam clean the wheels for me though all free of charge....ahem for a moment i thought i'd driven into the worlds most expensive IMO

I had this on my 2001 TDI estate, the problems were:

1. In the rear left of the boot (behind the lightcluster) the boot wiring was relaly not waterproofed and wires had shorted out. I bought a waterproof electrical box and rewired it.

2. This had damaged the Convenience ECU (cost about
