Hi all, quick question on paint. My Rally Red Felicia is fading to pink. I have tried a quick turn of T-Cut and 3m Finnesse it (compound cutter) and it has no effect bar making the pink shinier. Can anyone suggest a solution as the grille surround is rally red but the bonnet is parade pink.....:confused:

Have an ask if anyone around you has a PC Buffer, do a wee search on here for that or 'porter cable' the results are astounding, but it is only a substitute for more elbow grease!

Try Meguiar's #80 and #83. These are different levels of polishes with different cutting capabilities.

You could also try G10 by machine or G25 by hand. The trick is to polish/cut then get the oils and protection back in then seal and wax.

Klasse AOI gets good reviews and is more of an all in one product hence the AOI, it contains cleansers which get rid of blooming!

It all depends what experience and equipment you have to the products you would use.

I used some T-Cut "Colour Restorer" on my old Corsa which was pretty pink and that brought the red back a treat. Pretty minimal effort too

If you haven't got access to a porter cable I'd try Autoglym Paint Renovator. This is quite a strong cutting compound and you should use this with a microfibre cloth in straight lines (not in circles). Each panel might need going over 2-3 times so don't dispair if on the first application you don't see much of a difference. Another thing to note is that it's not the application of the polish that works, its the rubbing of the polish over the paint if that makes sense. This process requires a serious amount of effort, you really do need to work the polish over the paint surface.

Once you've done the car with that, I'd use Autoglym Super Resin Polish. Again applying with a microfibre cloth and going over each panel 2-3 times.

Finally I'd seal it all in by using Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection. Using tiny amounts, spread it all over the car, wait a couple of hours and then buff off.

I've got similiar problems, the top face of the rear spoiler on the car is very faded compared to the roof sections almost dull pinkish in colour compared to the reflective red of the rest of the car.

I think i've got some coloured polish somewhere...

Coloured polish doesn't solve the problem all it does is mask it for a while.

You really need to remove the very thinnest of layers to remove the affected area.

From stuff you can easily buy in a shop:

1) T-Cut/Autoglym or gentle use of a very fine cutting paste.

2) Scratch-X

3) Polish(just polish not wax and polish)

4) Bodywork sealant

5) A couple of layers of good wax or synthetic "wax" top coat

This kept an old red (faded to pink) car looking red for about a year without signs of pinkness returning and would have been longer IMHO if there been a chance to wax it at all during that year.

Perhaps the issue here is the age of the car.

If the car is newer and using the water based rather than lead based paints, then the car will have a laquer topcoat. The red paint that has faded is underneath this. If the paint is water based then IIRC the only solution to get the colour back is to respray, or remove all the topcoat and re-apply after sorting the paint. All the current batch of suggested products will do, is work on the clear coat and not the paint underneath.

In all honesty that's what I was thinking. As the topcoat is shiny (not dull and oxidised like other red cars I've seen) the paint under the topcoat seems to have faded........ I will try some of the suggestions here to see if it does make a difference though. Cheers,
