FINALLY got the last bit of trim in

Featured Replies

Well, decided to tackle the centre dash bit of trim at lunchtime... Didn't think it would take me 3 hours. I was also refitting the C shaped bit which goes between dash and handbrake trim. It kind of went like this.

Glovebox out.

Heater control trim off

side trims off around radio off

Radio and cage out

2 drawer tray out

unclipped heater control, removed old blue trim.

Had to cut old blue trim in one place to free up "extra" wiring ;)

- - This was when I attempted to refit the C shaped bit - Damn, it was tight.

Undid handbrake column trim

Pulled back about 18" (as much as I could without removing gearknob entirely)

Attached C shaped bit to trim and pushed back, and screwed column trim back down

- - Then it went back nicely. After contemplating putting the new trim back in I spotted my "not hooked up at one end" heater direction control rod.... (been about 12 months unconnected....) - Figured I'd better attach it.

This was when I realised how tight it was trying to get to the "sticky out bit", with the C shaped bit of trim back. Cursing and pulling back the trim as far as I could, I lost patience and undid handbrake column again, and removed the C shaped bit totally again. After removing the headlight encompassing bit of trim as well, I finally got it connected and got the other end attached to the heater control. Hopefully it won't come off again. In the process I managed to make one live connector hit one of the metal dash supports - Cue a fairly decent spark, me cursing again, and thinking nothing of it.

Reattached the C shaped bit, and fitted back and screwed down handbrake column again.

Now I offered up the new black centre trim. Re-connected the ASR and heated rear screen switches, and my "other" switch too. ;) Got it all pushed back fine and hooked up two screws to secure it. Got the heater control clipped back without much issue, then came to look at the radio wiring.

Somehow, the "extra" wiring is in places fed by the radio wiring - fair enough, but this means it's a bit tight. So I ended up extending one wire using some extra wire I had lying about, and having to make good the connectors on the Pioneer loom. Managed to get it hooked up though, and plugged the radio in for a test... DEAD! :grumpy: - Then I remember my spark (see above) so went to check fuse no.45. BLOWN! blown a 20A fuse. :D Thankfully had another in my spare bulb kit so swapped it over and the radio was live again. :speaker:

So, for the rest of the refit, I had the pleasure of Evanescence at quite a high volume! :speaker: I am totally knackered now though - got quite warm outside. :D

It's nice to have NO bluey/grey trim left no though. :D

:wrthless: :D

but

Your wish is my command. :D As you can see there's still a bit of tidying up to do. I need to get the bonnet pull plastic sorted - another thing I forgot to get this morning from the scrapper. And I need to jiggle where the centre trim and under steering wheel trim join. At the moment one is below the other and it should be above it and screwed together. I might get some energy this evening. :) At least now it looks a bit neater, and radio is flush back as well. :)
