I can't figure it out so have put a thread up on moneysavingexpert to see if they have any ideas

There are quite a few offering the same sort of deals including car phone warehouse, depending on what phone etc you want. When I was checking round the free minutes etc seemed to be slightly less than offered by the supplier at the same monthly cost and of course there is the insurance and itemised billing to add, and the terms surrounding the cash back have strict time limits etc, I do know of a couple of colleagues who have succesfully claimed a full 12 months back so thought i would give it a go, one thing to watch is once you go outside your inclusive minutes you will be on the highest tarriff going ie on mine i think texts are 37p each after the 250  So would guess they are buying bulk contracts from the likes of vodaphone, with some of the benefits stripped out, charging the full monthly rental, and hoping people fail to meet the cash back terms. Still considering the phone is a

I have just checked that out and it looks to be FREE ......i.e. free phone ....free rental.........so how do they make any money....I'm confused

The retailer gets a big kickback from the network for every contract sold. They are choosing to pass some/all of this on to the buyer to persuade them to sign up.

The terms of the cashback are somewhat strict, and from what I've read elsewhere, they rely on a high percentage of buyers forgetting to claim or getting the claim process wrong to stay in profit.

I've just got to the end of a 12 month 100% cashback deal with coolnewmobile without any problem.

If I wanted a new contract & phone then buying via a cashback deal could bring the price down significantly, but it would be best not to commit to a more expensive deal than you are happy with, just in case it goes wrong!

As an aside or two, you can sometimes get more than 100% back so end up with cash in your hand if you sign up through Quidco.com or similar. The other aside is it might be worth a look at Reestit Mutton's Bargain Basement: The UK's only contract mobile phone deals website that tells it like it is, though it appears it's not been updated for a few weeks.

Yep ...that's what I have just found out...... the cashback terms are quite strict and they rely on most people not keeping up with it......

That's why they have a key-pad lock ;) Can't recommend Samsung from my experience - Nokia all the way!

There's a special mystery implement in swmbos handbag that can unlock the keypad on phones in seconds and then they always seem to dial 999

Not a mystrey implement just eurpoean law that dictates a phone must be able to dial emergency numbers while the keypad is locked. Great idea hey

And that is exactly what swmbo's phones used to do,(quite often hear voices coming out of her handbag) but the slide phones seem to be a bit more resistant to it
