A cherished (and modded) 1.8T 4x4 - whats it worth?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Im after some advice on selling my 52 reg Octavia Elegance 1.8T 4x4 hatchback.

The problem Im having is that I simply cant work out how much to put it up for. It is a very reluctant sale indeed (dont all car sellers say that?!?) :o as the car has proved 100% reliable and a pleasure to own and drive.

I was hoping to keep it along with the new VRS I now have on order but having spent the last month considering this seriously; it isnt going to work out. My only concern with the new car is if it will measure up to this car! It certainly wont provide the wet weather traction!

I've seen a few standard cars with higher mileage change hands for 5k on ebay but have then seen them on the dealer forecourts, at independants and privately changing hands for 6-7k.

It seems a very difficult car to value.

Then there is the added complexity of the fact its modified. All mods (and now servicing) were carried out by Jabbasport so I figure this is a good thing if someone is looking for the ready made solution but then some people will say modifications will devalue a car!

How do the VRS alloys affect the price? How does the full Recaro interior affect it? Then theres the susupension and brake setup..... :o

As per all of my cars; it has been fully (over!) serviced; oil and filter changed every 6 months roughly (at 19k (major service inc plugs, brake fluid)) when I bought it, then at 25k, then 29k and now at 33k), cambelt was done at 29k as was the metal impellor water pump). There was a full service history from the previous owner too.

So, what is it worth?

Really would appreciate some help on this.

I don't know what it's worth, but I'd buy it if i didn't own my current car. After owning my vRS for 16 months I have come to appreciate it's qualities, but also be niggled by some of it's shortcomings.

The car looks great I reckon. The colour and vRS alloys work well together and the mods done by Jabba wouldn't worry me, they'd do a better job than most amateur modders. It's a perfect sleeper car, subtle looks, good power and the 4x4 system to put that power on the road effectively, unlike the fwd of the vRS.

Good luck with the sale. What are you getting instead? Do you mean Mk1 or Mk2 vRS?

best of luck with the sale but unless you ge the right man on the right day expect quite a drop in price over standard simply as everyone see's a modified car and instantly reads it as thrashed and ruined, spend 2k on a car moding it and see it lose 1k in price quite easily sadly.

I think you looking at around 6-6.5k if you can find someone on here who is looking for a modded example or around 5-5.5k maybe if you can find a buyer eslewhere.

If someone on here is after one then you have a much better chance of selling it for what it's worth.

I personally would get it till your happy with your new car, maybe even keep as a weekend/track car if you can afford to.

Speaking from experience :P, you and me both bengie!

As for the 4x4 in question, if you're going to get a decent price for it, you need to appeal to an enthusiast possibly on this site. Just need to put into their mind what is possible (see Stuart J's) 4x4 and you will have a killer sleeper. To the layman though I think you'll have to settle for somewhere between 5 and 5

If that was an estate i would snatch your hand of at 5.5 - 6:thumbup:

Why not join freedom and try and sell it on the site. Plently of people after Octys and this is a very nice alternative to a vRS.

Note : Do join freedom before trying to sell it!

Thanks for all the comments

Emily - I will be joining freedom irrelevant of me attempting to sell the car through it; Ive been on here long enough to want to contribute but have just never got round to doing it (daft excuse I know!) :o

I agree with all comments made - unfortunatly people dont realise how the car has been driven. For instance I never go above 3k when the engine oil is cold and always let the car sit running for a minute after a run (even when its been pootled down to Tesco's); some people who see that a car has been moddified may well think that means its been given death every moment of its life rather than appreciating that the owner is a car enthusiast and simply wants to enhance the basic car and bring it into a new league, ability wise.

As Im in no rush I think I'll advertise it around the

I think I'd like to see some interior pictures. :)

I've got one of these same year 41k and would love to think it was worth 5k but as there is one at a garage nearby - same year 48k - for

nice seats, like mine but with deeper bolsters

Off topic but what are the seats out of???

Cheers,

Seats look awesome imho.

Do you have the originals too?

Don't suppose they are heated also?

:P

(just curious, ;) )

Or the other option, return most of it to standard and sell the bits youve added on.

Thats something I considered briefly but I dont have much free time coming up over the next few months. :(

Im going to hold out as Im lucky enough not to have to rush the sale in anyway. :)

The Seats were apparently an option (not the standard ones which I think they changed to non recaro after a while) on the Mk4 Golf - costing

The car as standard had a limited market appeal, with the modifications you have reduced it further. What you need to do is to advertise it within specialist Skoda/VW and modified car magazines/websites, as a 4X4 it will also make a good tow car (not that you would like to see it with a tow bar on it) so don,t discount some caravanning publications.

That does look a very nice car.

i'd say rather than reduce your market appeal you have changed it as someone who was interested in a 4x4 but was put off by the high ride height and unsupportive seats can buy one instead of a vRS as it has more power, better seats, the same brakes and better suspension :)

The only way you a going to get a good price for it is by selling to an enthusiast. You will not get anywhere near any return on your mods and these will more than likely reduce the price of the car if part exing.

I sold my IHI-end VRS to a member here....so I'm speaking from experience.

  • 3 weeks later...

How much do you ACTUALLY want for it and work out what to sell it for from there.

I'd actually be keen in it if you do work it out

I think he wants

Great advertising thread here, There are loads on the market in std trim for around 3-4k, one close by with full leather & 219bhp for

Great advertising thread here,

If this was an advertsiing thread I'd have stated a price and not been so laid back - I am in no rush to sell and I havent hounded the members that have PM'ed me - I now have a better idea of which channels to go through when/if I do decide to sell which is what I was after. :)

Thanks for the input guys.

Lee

So how much do you want? ;)

  • Author

If I told you that I'd be trying to sell it! :P

Had two interested parties so far state that they would be prepared to pay 6k (one wants it now and one, it seems, cant get insured on it!) so Thats the figure I will put it up at when the time comes. :)
