BMC Induction Kit

Featured Replies

Has anyone used the BMC CDA induction kit on their VRS, the carbon encased one. I used one on my mk2 Golf and was very impressed with it, as were the tuners at Stealth, but I'm new to this TDI lark and was wondering what peoples experiences were, I know the preference appears to be for the PD160 set up on here and understand the reasons for using it but don't know how much increase it gives.

It's generally recognised that the most efficient intake setup for the VRS is the standard airbox with the PD160 intake and a green filter. However it will not give you any noticeable increase in power or noise just a slight freer reving unit and loss smoke under full chat. You really notice this with a remap

The CDA is recognised as a good bit of kit, funds permitting I will get one for my MK2 Golf.

But in the Fabia space is quite tight and fitting an enclosed induction kit and getting he intake pipe routed isnt easy.

I am thinking of going BMC on mine, but the routing of the air intake is going to be a bit of a nightmare. I had a little visualisation experiment, and even with my battery gone it would be a bit interesting. I'm thinking about removing the long section of air intake pipework bolted on to the turbo intake, fitting the MAF direct to that somehow (MAF wiring permitting too), then the CDA would bolt right on to that, and somehow I would use some flexible pipe to come around and follow the oem intake pipe route (sort of.... It's tight around there)

One bonus I can see of the CDA is no oil. The filters are washable, but are not oiled.... Good for MAF protection I imagine!

I've got one on mine. Only done a few hundred miles with my so results are yet to be seen.

First impressions are its a bugger to fit and not cheap. There is not much room in the engine bay for it. (silversausage) Which kit did you get just out of interest as it looks smaller than mine also a pic without the engine cover on would go down a treat.

The sudden kick has now gone on the car so it "feels" slower than it did before but it now revs very well and will pull all the way to near the redline. It also hits speeds that will lose your licence quicker now.

To be honest at the moment bang for buck you cant beat the green cotton filter and Cupra intake.

Will have to see if there is any difference in power if there is a rolling road day in the near future.

Was on the car when i bought it.

Have a receipt for

You sure? BMC use cotton-gauze which has to be oil impregnated for it to work as a filter.

Nope, I wasn't sure - It was something I was told, but after looking at the BMC website, it appears their cleaning kit comes with oil, so I take back what I said. :D

Wotcha SILVERSUSAGE, have the police said anything about your front number plate/sticker? Also was it hard to find a place to get it done??

What other mods have you done, and show us more pics of ya beast!!

cheers fella

looks impressive - but the flexi tube begs the question -why not a bonnet scoop intake?

Can make a nice gentle curve - get a little extra airpressure on moving to help airflow - short section of hose.

Be pretty simple for Jason and his carbon fiber hood to do together.....(!)

I don't think there's as much pressure on the bonnet than there is at the front of the vehicle. I may be wrong so would welcome another opinion on this.

i was under the impression that the PD160 intake was generally recognised as a cheap and easy, yet still somewhat effective, intake upgrade rather than the intake upgrade

Now that IS a tight fit; not sure I like the zig zag route of the feed pipe to the filter, the bends seem quite tight which surely must restict the airflow. A cupra intake to the OEM box has a good flow to it.

Isn't it possible to mount the filter/casing further away from the inlet maifold and thus nearer to the slam panel, so that you get a pretty much straight fore/aft flow of air from front to rear.

I don't think that monster would sit in the engine bay in any other orientation. Certainly not with end on feed and exit.

Shame the battery is encased in a huge monstrosity of black plastic. That's got to be affecting things.

I think rather than shelling out for a PD160 intake, it'd be worthwhile attaching an extension to the flexible piping to the cool air inlet in the slam panel. Then dremel out the plastic fitting to a bigger diameter.

Nice one f1btn -

Jase and others have relocated the battery rearward - this might be the magic solution to the ultimate furby air intake i.e.

1- relocate battery rearward (relocating a lot of weight)

2- orient the CDA north-south where battery box and OEM airbox are now.

3- take tool of your choice to OEM air opening in slam panel and make it a "BF opening"

4- hosing of your choice straight to CDA then gentle curve to turbo

(Is that an angle grinder I hear Jason firing up there????)

what does the PD160 intake look like? how much are they?

what about this forementioned green filter? new to this still...
