What is the dumbest thing that you have ever done to a car?

Featured Replies

When you pump the pedal, does it not build the pressure up? But it can't if the cap hasn't been replaced? I am probably wrong, in which case, no-one had better buy a car where I've changed the brakes!

No, the reservoir is just that, bit like the cystern(SP?)on your toilet it just gravity feeds the master cylinder, the cap doesnt even seal airtight, its can't or the level would never drop.

It was motor cycle related. I had broken down and got a tow home it was OK on the straight but going round corners was hairy as the bike swung out in a wide ark definitely a don't try this at home

Assumption is the mother of all f*ck ups, I believe...

don't f0ckin sneeze when your reversing... :(

especially if theres a wall behind you.. :(

it f0cks up your bumper & bends your boot lid..

have to wait 2 weeks get it sorted now... :thumbdwn:

:finger: what a silly @rseh0le... :o

quite afew years ago, (circa '93), I was drilling a hole in the boot of my Metro 'Studio 2' to install an amp. The drill went through the first layer of metal then swiftly through the second....

....Followed by a strong smell of petrol! - DOH!

let a femal move my car off the drive, she put it in first instead of reverse. good bye garage door

These are great, My most idiotic idea was to paint my first car, orange cortina estate, black with spray cans did everything apart from front and rear screens and lights, very expensive and very crap, the local fuzz agreed and took it off the road for me. (it seemed like a good idea after a case of cider!)

1. In heavy morning rush hour traffic, edged-outin front of an oncoming 38-tonner artic transitting the hangar Lane Gyratory round about in West London at trickle speed. He didn't stop trickling. Result, my Golf T-boned and raised several feet off ground on impact of artic with my drivers door - only remedied by artic driver reversing up the roundabout allowing my golf to drop to the ground !

2. Deferred car maintenance, engine core plug blew in trickling rush hour traffic on elevated section of M40 West London - no hard shoulder. With water gushing out the engine, used the old Luftwaffe Battle of Britain trick, switching the engine on and off till I reached the down ramp at Paddington.

3. Within a month of taking delivery of new Honda mototcycle, overtightened oil drain plug and put a split in the crankcase - couldn't afford the welding repair so dealer bored out the hole in situ and epoxied oversized spark plug (Ceramic head removed) in the hole.

Oh ! And the piece de resistance.

Driving an Alfa Sud on West London subarban road, nearside rear clipped the back of an automatic Jag reversing out of his drive on to the main road. Alfa did a 360 spin, the g-force of which forced my foot down on the accelerator and the Alfa forcefully hit, head-on, roadside cast iron stink pipe which then broke in half and descended on the Alfa's cabin. Pre- compulsory seat belts, my head leaving suitable image in the laminated w/s. Car written -off.

Stupidest thing is removing the coolant cap off my first Skoda when the engine had overheated, lucky it was a cold night to cool the boiling water on my body down quickly. :o
