Pollen Filter Change

Featured Replies

Went to change my pollen filter (and also clean out the scuttle area) yesterday but was unable to remove the plastic cover from the base of the windscreen which covers the pollen filter and wiper arm assembly.

The 'Haynes Book of Automotive Lies' says to remove the sealing strip from the top of the bulkhead and left-hand wiper arm the simply 'pull' the plastic trim off. Well after half an hour of mucking around I just gave up as there was no way this plastic cover would budge.

Has anyone had this problem before, and can anyone shed any light on how you get the bugger off?

Thanks in advance, Simon.

I had a fiddle recently, the plastic trim pulled out resonably easily, i didn't have to use screwdrivers or similar. I believe the trim is also clipped under the wing panel? but the trim through which the wipers go overlaps the other side. So with the wipers in place i don't think it is possible to remove either trim.

I think i pushed the trim towards the centre and that helped it free itself. The hard bit was getting the trim back in to the grove at the base of the windscreen.

Got squeaky wipers so i'll have to strip it properly at some point.

Yeah when I have changed the pollen filter I have taken the passenger side windscreen wiper off. you can take the full piece of plastic trim away which makes life a lot easier

I lifted mine up about an inch and slid the pollen filter out and a new one in. Didnt remove the panel. You could use a bit of timber to keep it there while you swap them over.

When you do finally replace it, just make sure that the pollen filter snaps into place and is seated properly, or else water will get into the car.

Exactly how I did mine the first time.... having small hands helps too! ALthough I have managed to get the passenger side panel off without removing the drivers side with a bit of cheating too!

No need to remove the wipers as someone mentioned, unless you are planning on removing the drivers side of the scuttle.

It is a bit of a pig to get off - and be careful as someone on here cracked his windscreen doing it!!

It clips in along its top edge - remove it by lifting the top edge perpendicular to the windscreen. This can take a bit of doing, especially if it's got dirt in the clippy bit

good diy pic there m8...

I used the bit of wood technique - didn't have to take the panel or the wiper off.

I heard this tip: Use hot water on the plastic to heat it up so that it doesn't split.

Yea its a total pig to do!

I got the hair dryer on mine and just lifted the cover straight up until the clips snapped out.

You will think that your going to break it as i did.

Excellent! Thanks for the pictures RonClubley, they are spot on! I reckon I'd have split either the trim or windscreen trying to get it off without knowing what is underneath. Thanks again!

Happy to be of assistance :)
