Fabia - What to Look out for?

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Been a long time since I was on the forum, but due to a problem with my focus (engine management releated problem) I am considering of selling the car for a fabia in the next couple of weeks.

I have spotted at a franchised skoda dealer in edinburgh a 03 plate fabia classic 1.2 64bhp with about 43000 miles on the clock in silver.

What sort of issues do I need to look out for on the fabia?

The car in question will be given a 3 month skoad warrenty from the garge and a full pdi check.

A few common niggles, have a search on here for the follow.

leaking door carriers

cracking console bushes and ARB bushes plus drop links.... basically the front suspension.

leaking screen wash pipes to rear screen

Thanks for that mate, I have heard of the windows dropping as well when you lock the car door, is this correct???

David

Never heard of that one (yet!) but my list would be ; Power steering (check it doesnt go 'hard' , check the dash for the steering wheel light) front suspension as already stated (check for knocks and squeaks) , Doors leaking (check the carpets and mats for dampness , especially in the back) , make sure the check engine light doesnt come on at all during the test drive , make sure the electric windows and central locking (if fitted) work as supposed to (sometimes the windows go 'funny' if you press the drivers side window switch , the pass. one will go down-usually the 'convenience unit' is at fault here and will need to be replaced if the problem persists), Make sure the heater fan works properly and the aircon (if fitted) delivers cold air when set to cold! (the heater flaps are powered by electric motors not cables in the fabia , sometimes they take a spasm and give you hot air when you have the thing set on cold - you will need new flap motors and or the control unit for them)

Cant think of any more at the moment , but hope this helps. PS only a 3 month warranty? Thats a bit stingy for an approved used car , I'd haggle for at least another 3 months on that if you do the deal , might just come in handy!

cheers for that, my girlfriends mum has a fabia and has suffered from the electric windows dropping when you lock the car, I beleive it is a relay issue after speaking to her last night, I might see if I can extend the warrenty to a year at least.

David

Check it has 4 wheels and 4 doors

You can operate the electric windows with the key in the door lock y'know. ;)

I think if you are locking the car with the 'Convenience System' (ie holding the key in the 'locking' position) then the windows are supposed to close , not open.

  • 6 months later...

My daughter's (almost) committed to buying a 2003/52plate Fabia Classic 8v. Been to have a look at it on her behalf. The engine looks just like a Favorit with MPI added. The car's an estate. Seems to drive very well; one owner from new; all bills available. What else should I/we look for???

Bit of a blast from the past this topic!

leaky door seals is one to look out for.

Looking back at this post I can't believe I was looking at a 1.2 fabia, how times change.

It made me chuckle thinking of you with a 1.2

When I first registered I was looking at the mark2, then this one and hen bought the vRS. I ca't imagine myself in a 1.2 now. Even driving my grandads 1.2 ibiza I'm trying to go for that extra sixth gear!
