Cel!

Featured Replies

Fabia 2005 - 55 plate. Check Engine Light stays on after I start it. It started happening this evening, noticed it on the way home from work. It's been stopped and restarted 3-4 times since then.

Seems to drive normally, though understandably, I didn't give it WOT in case bits fell off.

No obvious odd noises. No obvious clouds of smoke, no other lights/bells/whistles. Coolant level's normal, oil's a bit low but still apparently "legal", oil looks normal.. A/c still works, rad fans work.

Could be any number of things J.

Only real way to find out is get the code off it.

Oh well, after a weekend working, I was going to call the dealer today....

Driving home from the supermarket last night and the CEL's gone off. Yippee!

Stopped, Paddington Bear stared at the dash whilst I re-started it and still no CEL. And none this morning either - double yippee!

It's only got about 1200 miles until the next service so if it stays off, I'll ask about it then.

Is this a symptom of the brake light switch fault?

Chris

vindaloo, what has probably happened is that a fault condition was detected for long enough for the CEL to be "set", after that it disappeared never to return, the fault displaying system is set-up to "hold" a fault and "set" the CEL for a predetermined number for "starts", if the fault condition does not return within this period, the CEL will "go off". If the fault was important enough its entry will be held as a logged fault code in the relevant controller module. When your car is next serviced by a VAG dealer you should ask him to check for logged faults - and pass this information on to you before clearing the logged faults. Alternatively, buy VAG COM and note and clear the faults. Unfortunately, some faults will be "ghost" faults and will not immediately lead to your dealer changing parts and totally clearing the problem. Maybe VAG even offer firm-ware updates - I don't know for sure.

I got the code read eventually.... Thanks to VRStu... Actually more thanks needed than I knew as my local garage is no longer even an authorised repairer for Skoda. :thumbdwn:

Fault is - Coolant temperature sensor.

I now have a choice of towns/cities in a 40 mile radius to choose from. Aylesbury, Watford, Isleworth, Walton Upon Thames, Newbury.... Watford's closest but Isleworth is closer for work....

One od the reasons for not getting a SEAT was "oh, the Skoda garage is only just up the road..." Wah!
